Under direction of the Director, Supply Chain, the Supply Chain Specialist role is critical in optimizing supply chain processes, ensuring cost efficiency, and maintaining seamless transportation of goods. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, extensive knowledge of transportation networks, and the ability to manage relationships with carriers and vendors across multiple modes of transport.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Logistics Operations Management :

Coordinate and manage logistics activities across trucking, rail, and bulk import / export modes to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of goods.

  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize transportation routes, reduce lead times, and minimize costs.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including DOT, hazardous materials handling, customs, and trade regulations.
  • Carrier and Vendor Management :
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with carriers, vendors, and service providers.

  • Negotiate contracts, freight rates, and service-level agreements to achieve cost savings while maintaining quality and reliability.
  • Evaluate carrier performance using key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Inventory and Demand Coordination :
  • Collaborate with supply chain planning teams to align transportation plans with inventory and demand forecasts.

  • Ensure optimal stock levels at all distribution points to support uninterrupted supply chain operations.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting :
  • Collect and analyze logistics data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.

  • Prepare and present regular performance reports, including cost analyses, transit times, and carrier performance metrics.
  • Leverage insights from data to inform strategic decision-making and improve operational efficiency.
  • Technology and Process Optimization :
  • Utilize transportation management systems (TMS) and other supply chain software to streamline operations and improve visibility.

  • Identify and implement process improvements, leveraging automation and digital tools where applicable.
  • Bulk Import / Export Management :
  • Manage international shipping and customs processes for bulk imports and exports.

  • Ensure compliance with international trade laws and regulations, including documentation and certifications.
  • Collaborate with freight forwarders and customs brokers to resolve clearance issues.
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in supply chain logistics, with specific expertise in trucking, rail, and bulk import / export operations.
  • Proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS) and supply chain analytics tools.
  • Strong understanding of freight regulations, customs compliance, and international trade laws.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex logistics data and translate findings into actionable strategies.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Preferred Skills

  • Certifications such as Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) or Certified in Logistics, Transportation, and Distribution (CLTD).
  • Experience working in industries such as manufacturing, agriculture, chemicals, or energy.
  • Familiarity with sustainability practices and green logistics initiatives.
