The DHS Child Well-Being Program (CWP) offers trained professionals to strengthen the care and protection of children in custody of the DHS between the time of encounter and transfer to a long-term care facility. This program provides structured support, clinical services, and technical guidance focusing on child well-being.
Scope:
- The professionals supporting the CWP will work alongside U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) Agents, Processing Coordinators, Caregivers, and medical staff to ensure the well-being of children in custody.
- The Child Well-Being Professionals will engage regularly with children, coordinate care, and escalate issues related to well-being while having the flexibility to provide interventions in surge or crisis situations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides advisement and decision support on child well-being matters, attends meetings, and communicates with external groups regarding program managerial responsibilities.
- Serves as the main point of contact and manager for CWB Specialists, providing guidance, management, and supervision for decision-making and special case advising.
- Supports coordination for special cases, facilitating connections across local, state, and federal resources.
- Covers regular staffing allocation among facilities and stations based on operational realities.
- Covers coordination of regular staff meetings, ongoing training, performance reviews, and human resources requirements for CWB Specialists.
- Engages individually with CWB Specialists for regular reporting and documentation on special cases and program evaluation criteria.
- Serves as the main point of contact for USBP Sector Leadership, providing professional opinions, technical expertise, and assistance.
