Job Description:
The Grounds Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing all landscaping and grounds maintenance operations at the FLETC Charleston Complex. This role ensures that the facility’s outdoor areas are maintained to high standards while implementing environmentally responsible landscaping practices. The manager will coordinate staff, contractors, and resources to maintain healthy, visually appealing grounds that meet federal environmental and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise all groundskeeping activities, including grass-cutting, fertilization, weed control, tree maintenance, irrigation, and erosion control.
- Develop and execute seasonal landscaping schedules, ensuring a well-maintained appearance year-round.
- Manage groundskeeping staff and subcontractors, ensuring adherence to safety regulations and best practices.
- Oversee landscaping equipment, procurement, and maintenance schedules.
- Ensure compliance with EPA regulations and federal/state environmental laws.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and upcoming maintenance needs.
- Submit monthly reports to the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) detailing maintenance activities and future work plans.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in Horticulture Technology, Landscape Architecture, Floriculture, or Arboriculture.
- Five (5) years of experience in commercial or industrial grounds maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of landscaping techniques, plant health, soil management, and pest control.
- Experience managing a large workforce, including scheduling and supervising maintenance crews.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office for scheduling, record-keeping, and reporting.
- Understanding of federal and state environmental regulations related to landscaping and grounds maintenance.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate with staff, vendors, and government officials.
