Description

Under the general direction of the Practice Physician, the Chief Nursing Officer, and the Executive Director Practice Manager, the Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner provides compassionate and personal direct and indirect patient care, Performs routine gynecological examinations and preventive health measures, manages the health care of patients, promotes health and provide care in keeping with parameters established for a Nurse Practitioner in a healthcare setting, to include clinical evaluations, problem assessment, diagnostic and treatment plans, and education of patients, in accordance with The Joint Commission, federal, state, and local guidelines, and Effingham’s departmental policies/procedures. Communicates with medical staff, internal departments, and outside agencies while maintaining confidentiality. The position requires self-motivation, creativity, and capabilities to function in a semi-autonomous role within a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Part Time: 20 Hours weekly

STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE

  • Ensures adherence to proper infection control, OSHA, and safety standards.
  • Assessment of health status by obtaining a relevant health and medical history, Performing routine gynecological and physical examinations based on age and history, performing or ordering preventive and diagnostic procedures based on the patient’s age and history, and identifying health and medical risk factors.
  • The nurse practitioner makes a diagnosis by utilizing critical thinking in the diagnostic process, analyzes the collected data, formulates a differential diagnosis based on the history, physical examination, and diagnostic test results, and establishes priorities to meet the health and medical needs of the individual, family, or community.
  • The nurse practitioner and the patient and family establish an evidence-based, mutually acceptable, cost-awareness plan of care that maximizes health potential.
  • Formulation of the treatment plan includes ordering additional diagnostic tests, developing a patient education plan, and appropriate consultation/referral.
  • Interventions and actions are based on individualized priorities, consistent with the appropriate care plan, and on scientific principles, theoretical knowledge, and clinical expertise, consistent with teaching and learning opportunities.
  • The nurse practitioner maintains a process for systematic follow-up by determining the effectiveness of the treatment plan with documentation of patient care outcomes, reassessing and modifying the plan with the patient and family as necessary to achieve health and medical goals.
  • The nurse practitioner emphasizes patient and family education, facilitates patient participation in self-care, promotes optimal health, provides for continually competent care, facilitates entry into the health care system, and promotes a safe environment.
  • The practitioner participates as a team member in providing health and medical care, interacting with professional colleagues to provide comprehensive care.
  • Maintains accurate, legible, and confidential records.
  • Participates in quality assurance review, including periodically reviewing records and treatment plans.
  • Maintains current knowledge by attending continuing education programs.
  • Advise on policy with the continually changing environment of patient care delivery.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary protocol development.
  • Grow practice volume by working in collaboration with a physician specializing in Urogynecology.
  • Establish a professional rapport with referring providers, practice clinicians, and support staff.
  • Provide preventative and specialty care for women in age groups ranging from adolescence to after menopause.
  • Conduct physical exams and interpret medical history.
  • Order and perform appropriate diagnostic tests and procedures.
  • Provide office-based contraceptive management, including insertion and removal of implants and intrauterine devices.
  • Prescribe appropriate pharmacotherapy to promote women’s health.
  • Have basic working knowledge in the management of abnormal uterine bleeding, menopausal care, urinary incontinence, and abnormal cervical screens. Candidates with colposcopy experience will be favored.
  • Appropriately consult a physician for diagnoses beyond the scope of practice and surgical evaluations.
  • Triage patients and participate in call coverage for the practice.
  • Counsel and educate patients about preventative and treatment options to promote health.
  • Appropriately prescribe pelvic floor and physical therapy as indicated.
  • Should have proficiency with an electronic medical record (EMR) for all aspects of patient care and documentation.
  • Thoroughly complete medical records and coding in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, needed, requested, or required.

Requirements

Minimum Level of Education: Education level equivalent to completion of High School and a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing program with a Master’s Degree in Nursing.

Formal Training: Management skills with experience in planning, organizing, implementing, facilitating, interviewing, counseling, and verbal and written communications.

Licensure, Certification, Registration: Must have and maintain an unencumbered current Georgia license to practice as an Advance Practice Nurse in the State of Georgia and BLS-CPR certifications.

Work Experience: Three to five years of Women's Health Nurse Practitioner and supervisory experience in healthcare or related industry. Intermediate computer skills with word processing and spreadsheet capabilities.
