What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Service Associate position at Stratum Dermatology?
The Patient Service Associate plays a critical role in managing patient experience both in-person and over the phone. The PSA is the first point of contact for patients and ensures that their experience is efficient, comfortable, and positive. This position requires exceptional communication skills, a focus on patient service, and the ability to maintain a professional demeanor at all times. The PSA reports directly to the Practice Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet patients, internal staff, and external visitors in accordance with established protocols.
- Check patients in and out of the system and manage appointment scheduling efficiently.
- Verify insurance information and obtain required authorizations, referrals, and pre-certifications from payors or providers.
- Answer incoming calls, address inquiries, and check and respond to voicemail messages regularly.
- Provide exceptional patient service with professionalism, compassion, and respect to both patients and colleagues.
- Accurately enter patient information into the electronic health record (EHR) system, ensuring all demographic and insurance details are correct.
- Perform general office clerical duties, such as filing, sorting mail, preparing documents for providers, and maintaining patient charts, following established office policies and procedures.
- Maintain attention to detail and perform tasks efficiently in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
- Demonstrate the ability to work independently, resolve problems, and make decisions when necessary.
- Foster a positive and respectful work environment by maintaining strong working relationships with coworkers and patients.
- Assist with any additional tasks as requested by providers or the Practice Manager.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a medical office or customer service setting preferred. Experience in dermatology is a plus.
- Proficiency in using a Windows-based computer system and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong keyboarding skills and attention to detail.
- High level of accuracy and dependability required.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, patients, and the public.
