Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the Senior Manager, Accounting will be a key leader within the Controllership function overseeing Strava’s accounting operations, driving efficiency, scalability, and public-company readiness. This role will lead general ledger (GL) accounting, consolidations, revenue accounting and operations, the monthly close process, and related reporting.
As a senior leader on the Controllership team, you will play a pivotal role in strengthening our financial close process in accordance with US GAAP. You will collaborate cross-functionally to enhance financial operations, drive accounting system implementations and improvements, and support Strava’s continued growth. Additionally, you will mentor and develop a high-performing accounting team, aligning team development with company objectives and fostering a culture of operational excellence.
We follow a flexible hybrid model that generally translates to around half your time on-site in our San Francisco office—roughly three days per week.
You’re excited about this opportunity because you will :
- Lead and manage all aspects of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including consolidations, preparing and / or reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, and maintaining the general ledger system.
- Oversee revenue accounting and operations, ensuring accurate recognition of subscription and partnership revenue in accordance with US GAAP.
- Lead system implementation and enhancements to support subscription revenue accounting, ensuring scalability, automation, and compliance with revenue recognition standards.
- Optimize and scale accounting policies, procedures, and systems to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
- Drive process improvements, incorporating best practices in system design, automation, and operational workflows.
- Partner with external auditors and support the audit process, ensuring a smooth and efficient engagement.
- Ensure the integrity of financial data and key metrics, delivering timely and reliable reporting to support business decision-making.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with FP&A, Legal, People, Partnerships, and other key stakeholders to ensure alignment and accuracy in financial reporting.
- Play a key role in public company readiness, including Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance and internal control enhancements.
