About the Coffee Shop

The Good Day Café is a social enterprise to employ people with disabilities in an integrated atmosphere.  Employees with varying abilities will work together with the common goal of serving exceptional coffee and food to the State College Community.  This shop will serve more than coffee; it will serve the opportunity to empower and enrich lives.

 

Job Summary

This coffee shop is a unique opportunity to be a part of an inclusive workplace.  In joining our team, you will be committing to providing great customer service, adding to a positive working environment, and serving great drinks and food.  As the barista, you are expected to multi-task and remain calm during times of high-volume.  As a team member you are expected to support your team, mentor less-experienced teammates, and understand your ever-present ability to improve in this position and as a team member.

 

Job Duties

• Welcome and serve all customers in a friendly matter.  Remain attentive and helpful during your interactions
• Assist your team by positively reinforcing successful performance and giving respectful and encouraging coaching as needed
• Create drinks and prepare food with care and do your best to ensure customer satisfaction.  Display your knowledge of the menu and how items are prepared.
• Accurately place orders, collect payment, and provide change/receipts at Point of Sale while upselling
• Ensure the success of yourself and your team by keeping all areas fully stocked and orderly
• Keep all stations clean including your personal work station, back prep areas, customer areas, and the bathrooms
• Follow safe food service and hygiene practices
• Report complaints, hazards, and accidents to the manager on duty

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

Criminal background check required. Previous experience working as a barista is highly desirable but not required.

Ability to actively listen, communicate clearly, and think creatively is necessary. The barista must have strong interpersonal skills, be able to work as part of a team, and to build relationships. Competence to be trained in areas including French press, dialing in espresso, steaming milk, as well as general knowledge of coffee product information.

Barista must be able to follow restaurant safety regulations as well as instruction on how to properly utilize machinery, lift boxes and bags, and safely carry out repetitive arm and hand motions.

 

Current hours for The Good Day Café are Monday through Friday 7:30am-3pm and Saturday 8am-2pm.

Shifts include mornings 7am-11:30am or afternoons 11:15am-3:45pm plus Saturdays 7am-3pm and some holiday shifts. MUST be available Saturdays!
