Internship – PSU Clinical Mental Health Counseling
Fall semester 2025 and Spring semester 2026
Strawberry Fields, Inc. is a Human Service agency providing residential and community services to individuals with Intellectual disabilities and/or mental health challenges.
We are celebrating 50 years of service to the Centre region!
Summary:
Strawberry Fields, Inc. (SFI) is a non-profit Human Service organization in State College, Pa serving over 300 individuals with Disabilities throughout Centre County. SFI is seeking Master's level-clinical interns to be immersed in our Mental Health programs and to offer counseling and support to our agency staff. Internship experience will include 1:1 counseling, small group (2-3) and larger group (8-10) experience.
Organization Expectations:
- Focus will be on: Developing Treatment Plans, Psychosocial Assessments, Group Counseling experience, developing rapport with people of varying abilities, 1:1 counseling for Strawberry Fields, Inc. staff
- Must be willing to work with individuals with varying degrees of severe and persistent mental illness
- Must be flexible regarding work schedule
- Ability to work as a team member and actively participate in all daily routines is essential
- Weekly supervision with a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC)
Job Responsibilities:
- Psychosocial Assessment
- Treatment Plan and Residential Service Plan development
- Group counseling for residential group home consumers and possibly community-based consumers in their home
- Group Counseling for Children receiving services
- As need arises, opportunity for 1:1 counseling with Mental Health consumers
- Weekly and one-time group counseling for staff of Strawberry Fields, Inc. with option for staff counseling - via telehealth
- Hours available between Monday through Friday 8am to 7pm with potential for weekend project or activity to enrich the internship experience
- Part time and full-time opportunities are available
- One semester or two semester opportunity
- Unpaid internship opportunity
Physical demand:
Ability to exert moderate physical activity (i.e., transferring, bending, twisting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, repetitive lifting, and pushing in miscellaneous activities with individuals and in overall maintenance to the house). Possess the physical stamina and emotional stability to be able to deal with medical and psychiatric emergencies.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must have access to own transportation (i.e., walking, biking, bus, or vehicle)
- Ability to be mentally and visually alert at all times
- Flexibility to take on new projects and deal with schedule changes
- Ability to be attentive to details (client needs, paperwork, schedule, clear and accurate documentation)
- Criminal background check required plus drug screening
- Professional and personal references required
- Must have exceptional communication skills in interactions with consumers, staff, families, and the community
