Scraps & Skeins is a creative reuse shop with a vision of improving the lives of our neighbors with varying abilities, including those with mental health challenges through the reuse and resale of materials that support Strawberry Fields’ programs.
2024 Green Business Partner and 2024 Emerald Award Winner
As recognized by the Centre County Recycling Authority for saving 45 tons of materials from the landfill
Job Summary:
- Volunteer up to 20 hours per week
- Shop hours are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 10am-2pm; First Wednesday of month extended hours 10am-5pm plus third Saturday of the month 9am-2pm
- Flexible schedule based on employee needs
The successful candidate will
- Learn to run register, receive donations, prep fabric and stock shelves
- Support 1:1 employees with disabilities to help them learn and excel in their duties
- Assist employees in navigating the social aspects of the workplace
- Communicate closely with manager and leadership to ensure team success
Qualifications:
- Interest in working with individuals with mental health challenges required
- Excellent communication, attention to detail, plus ability to switch between tasks efficiently required
- Ability to develop relationships with management and staff alike
- Must have access to own transportation (i.e. walking, biking, bus, or vehicle)
- Criminal background check required
- Professional and Personal references required
