Job Title: DOT Compliance and Driver Safety Manager

Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced DOT Compliance and Driver Safety Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing DOT compliance, ensuring driver safety, and ensuring adherence to all federal and state regulations. This role will involve conducting Level 1 and Level 2 inspections, performing ride-a longs with drivers, providing training, and offering guidance to ensure the highest standards of safety and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

• DOT Compliance Oversight:
  • Monitor and enforce adherence to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, including Hours of Service (HOS), vehicle inspections, and driver qualifications.
  • Ensure that the company maintains proper documentation for DOT compliance, including driver logs, vehicle maintenance records, and inspection reports.
  • Stay up to date on changes in DOT regulations and communicate these changes to the team.
• Level 1 and Level 2 Inspections:
  • Perform Level 1 and Level 2 DOT inspections on vehicles, including driver logs, vehicle maintenance, and safety equipment.
  • Conduct on-site inspections to ensure vehicles are in compliance with DOT safety standards and recommend necessary corrective actions.
• Ride-A longs and Driver Safety:
  • Conduct regular ride-a longs with drivers to monitor compliance with safety regulations, identify potential safety issues, and provide feedback on driving practices.
  • Offer coaching and guidance to drivers to improve driving habits, reduce accidents, and ensure safety on the road.
• Driver Training and Development:
  • Develop and implement training programs to educate drivers on DOT regulations, safe driving practices, and company policies.
  • Maintain a strong focus on accident prevention, defensive driving, and overall driver safety.
  • Conduct periodic safety meetings and refresher courses for drivers to ensure ongoing compliance.
• Accident Investigation and Reporting:
  • Investigate accidents involving company drivers to identify root causes, recommend corrective actions, and ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Maintain detailed records of accidents, inspections, and corrective actions.
• Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all inspections, ride-a longs, training sessions, and safety-related activities.
  • Prepare and submit compliance reports to upper management as required.
• Continuous Improvement:
  • Identify opportunities for improving safety practices and compliance processes, making recommendations for enhancing safety culture and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure the alignment of DOT compliance and safety goals with overall company objectives.

Qualifications:

• Experience: 5 years of experience in DOT compliance, transportation safety, or fleet management.
• Knowledge: Strong understanding of DOT regulations (FMCSA, HOS, vehicle inspection standards, etc.), driver safety protocols, and accident investigation procedures.
• Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with drivers, management, and regulatory agencies.
• Abilities: Ability to work independently and make sound decisions based on compliance standards and safety priorities.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to perform vehicle inspections, including physically checking equipment and safety systems.
• Ability to participate in ride a longs for extended periods and observe drivers in real-time driving conditions.

Work Environment:

• Primarily based at the company’s facility, with travel required for ride-a longs and inspections at various locations.
