Responsible for planning, organizing, scheduling, and directing the activities of the Commercial Lending Department. Oversees all commercial services functions including business accounts, loan requests and processing, property management, and related collections activities. Oversees and monitors the commercial loan portfolio. Develops and implements departmental policies and procedures and modifies as needed. Ensures that Commercial Lending activities are conducted in accordance with established standards. Trains, coordinates, supervises, and appraises Commercial Lending personnel. Ensures that Commercial Services are delivered professionally and efficiently.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
- Assumes responsibility for the development and implementation of effective Commercial Lending Department policies, procedures, and planning.
- Assists the Chief Lending Officer (CLO) in developing short and long-term goals for the Commercial Lending Department. Provides suggestions and recommendations.
- Assists in developing policies, procedures, and standards for commercial service operations. Conducts periodic reviews of existing policies and procedures to ensure that they are effective and current.
- Executes established operational goals and ensures that corporate-wide plans and programs are complemented and supported.
- Assumes responsibility for the effective administration of Commercial Lending functions.
- Monitors and evaluates work quality, efficiency, and productivity. Ensures that completed work is of the highest quality. Provides suggestions for improved service delivery and commercial portfolio management. Seeks new methods to accomplish departmental tasks.
- Tracks work flow. Ensures that deadlines are kept and records and loan documentation are complete and accurate. Oversees the compilation of monthly Department reports.
- Coordinates, schedules, and directs Department activities. Schedules annual leaves and ensures adequate personnel coverage. Oversees all commercial service and lending projects.
- Ensures that Department functions are completed in accordance with established policies, procedures, program requirements, and related legal standards.
- Ensures the integrity and accuracy of all loan and account documents.
- Assumes responsibility for the effective performance of Commercial Lending functions.
- Meets with and interviews potential borrowers to consider loan requests. Discusses loan programs, alternatives, credit criteria, interest rates, etc.
- Evaluates loan requests for possible consideration by the Commercial Lending Committee. Prepares written analysis of each loan request. Presents loan proposals to the Commercial Lending Committee for consideration. Prepares "Waivers" for Board consideration as necessary.
- Oversees all collections and foreclosure activities. Handles litigation relating to the loan portfolio.
- Directs repossessed property management and disposition.
- Conducts periodic property inspections of loan portfolio properties.
- Negotiates leases, listing agreements, and purchase agreements.
- Effectively supervises Department personnel, ensuring optimal performance.
- Provides leadership to Department personnel through effective objective setting, delegation, and communication. Conducts staff meetings and informs personnel of policy and procedural changes. Discusses areas needing improvement and encourages employee suggestions and ideas.
- Ensures that personnel are well trained, effective, and optimally utilized. Identifies training needs and develops appropriate training programs. Conducts training sessions and cross-trains as appropriate.
- Ensures that staffing levels are adequate. Interviews, hires, and assigns personnel.
- Conducts performance appraisals as required. Establishes goals with each employee. Formulates and implements corrective actions as needed. Completes salary reviews and ensures that job descriptions are current.
- Assists and supports Commercial Lending personnel as needed.
- Assumes responsibility for ensuring that professional business relations exist with members and business professionals.
- Represents the Credit Union in contacts with business professionals and borrowers.
- Ensures that requests, questions, and problems are courteously and professionally resolved.
- Ensures that borrowers are appropriately informed of Credit Union services, programs, and policies.
- Ensures that the Credit Union's professional reputation is maintained both internally and externally.
- Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective communication and coordination with Credit Union personnel and with management.
- Assists and serves branches and related departments as needed.
- Keeps the Chief Lending Officer informed of area activities and of any significant problems.
- Completes reports, records, and other documentation as required.
- Attends and participates in meetings and committees as required. Serves as a member of the Commercial Lending Committee.
- Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
- Stays abreast of changes in the commercial services field.
- Completes special projects as assigned.
- Ensures that work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.

- Department functions are effectively and efficiently completed in accordance with established Credit Union policies, procedures, standards, and related program and legal requirements. Safe and sound lending practices are maintained.
- Service and quality goals are met. Suggestions for improved service are developed and implemented. The integrity of the loan portfolio is maintained.
- Department policies and procedures are regularly reviewed and modified as needed. Appropriate Departmental and employee goals are formulated.
- Loan documents, account records, and related files are complete, accurate, and timely.
- Department personnel are well trained, effective, efficiently utilized, and well supervised. Assistance is provided as needed.
- Professional business relations exist with members and external business contacts. Questions and problems are promptly and courteously resolved. Assistance is provided as needed.
- Effective working relations exist with Credit Union personnel and with management. Assistance is provided as needed. Management is appropriately informed.
