Job Description
As the Global Head of Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning you will design and deliver activities to answer Street Business School’s priority learning questions
You will lead the agenda on how impact gets measured by SBS, and on how SBS influences the global conversation on the impact of micro-entrepreneurship on poverty alleviation. Capturing income impact data accurately is a challenge that has some of the best minds globally working on it and SBS’s work puts it front and center. We are also keen to grow how we measure impact beyond income and business ownership and MEL is a key area of investment for us – generating the insights and evidence that will influence investment in micro-entrepreneurship.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Insight generation
Lead the design of and support the implementation of a comprehensive monitoring, evaluation and learning plan for SBS. This plan will establish a common framework for indicators, data collection and reporting across all the programs and partners with which SBS works to deliver impact
Design, source and lead the management of evaluations commissioned to independent evaluators; track and manage timelines and budgets for evaluation studies
MEL methodologies and systems
Establish and implement data quality and database management protocols, systems, standardized reports and dashboards
Provide and apply expertise on research methods, tools and advice to ensure SBS is ahead of the curve on how to collect, analyze and represent impact data as relevant to the work we do
Provide high quality technical support to country/program teams on evaluation methodologies and MEL frameworks, in line with donor requirements
Collaborating with other departments
Provide advisory support to internal teams, including designing MEL frameworks, theories of change and evaluation methodologies for new and existing projects, quality assurance of data collection, analysis, leading on technical proposals and bids
Collaborate with the Fundraising Team to deliver high quality MEL plans and reports for our donor-funded programs
Influencing the conversation
Ensure that insights and analysis are audience-relevant, accurate, professionally presented, and rigorous, as this is a critical element of how evidence will be used to establish SBS as a technical expert in the area micro-entrepreneurship
Synthesize findings and recommendations from different evaluations and research/learning activities to inform SBS programming and strategic directions
Collaborate on the development and timely delivery of different learning products, ensuring that evidence is fed into relevant teams internally, as well as shared with external stakeholders
Draft papers and data visualization for conferences, donor meetings, media opportunities, contribute to senior management briefing notes etc.

Qualifications
Must Haves:
Over 8 years of proven success in data monitoring, reporting, oversight, research, and meaningful data presentation in international development contexts, ideally related to entrepreneurship
A high level of proficiency with Excel Stata, SAS, or relational databases. Power BI, etc and Taroworks and Salesforce, are a plus.
Successful execution of a fair share of data cleaning, manipulation, and analysis. A recognition that when it comes to data, 70% is data prep and 30% is design, analytics, and visualization.
Strong technical skills – proven development, refinement, and troubleshooting of data collection, database management, quality control and use of common reporting tools
High ethical standards and integrity in managing monitoring and evaluation processes, ensuring robust methodologies that are fit-for-purpose, credible, reproducible and transparent
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, as well as the ability to assimilate and process information for wide-ranging audiences
Highly Desirable
An advanced degree – in a relevant academic discipline, such as Development, Economics, or Statistics
Proficiency in project management techniques to coordinate and oversee processes efficiently. This involves planning, scheduling, resource allocation, and risk management
Proven ability to work autonomously with a high level of personal effectiveness
Team management experience– to direct, mentor, and oversee members of the MEL team (as recruited)
Commitment to personal ongoing learning and improvement in monitoring, evaluation, and learning, staying updated on industry developments and emerging trends
