StreetLight Community Outreach Ministries is a small non-profit in Woodbridge, VA. We serve the homeless and impoverished in our community. We have a supportive, rewarding work environment.
We run a temporary hypothermia shelter for homeless adults. It is open Nov 1, 2024 - Mar 31, 2025 when the temperature or wind-chill is 32 degrees or less. We need a part-time Shelter Coordinator to manage the shelter and staff. This is a temporary part-time, seasonal position, but it is vital to protecting those in-need during the winter months. Preferred work schedule would be Fri-Sun with some on-call work as required.
The Hypothermia Shelter Coordinator is responsible for implementation and oversight of StreetLight’s Hypothermia Shelter project, serving homeless adults.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Oversees the Shelter's day to day operations, staff and guests receiving services. Ensures operations run safely and smoothly.
· Manages 6-10 staff (RA, Security) and volunteers. Monitors staff documentation and provision of services. Ability to plan, organize and direct the work of others; ability to supervise and support staff.
· Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to present recommendations clearly and concisely.
· Supervises the intake and exit of guests receiving services.
· Supervises and arranges transportation when needed for guests accordingly.
· Supervises and if needed coordinates and plans meals for the guests daily.
· Schedules staff hours accordingly based on the operations needs and availability.
· Provides oversight of guest intake process.
· Coordinates and oversees the maintenance of program facility and equipment to ensure compliance with relevant health, fire and safety codes.
· Maintains inventory with a continuous system targeted to being cost effective and within the operations budget.
· Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve.
· Ability to work effectively, calmly and in a professional mannerism under duress at all times. Provides crisis intervention using safe crisis management techniques.
· Treats all staff and guests in a fair diplomatic manner. Takes disciplinary action when needed in accordance with the operations policy.
· Recognizes illicit behaviors, mental health and offers and oversees services put in place accordingly.
· Collaborate and maintain a professional working relationship with community agencies, partners, city, state and federal officials
· Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
· Completes incident reports, bed census and other administrative duties needed.
· Completes guest data entry into HMIS and carries out other data entry requirements as needed.
· Maintains quality program practices, enable staff participation in continuous quality improvement.
· Ensures program and staff compliance with all agency and housing program policies and procedures.
· On call duties as needed.
· Other duties requested by the Supervisor.

This job operates in the former Bill Mehr Drop In Center, set up to serve as a hypothermia shelter for homeless individuals during November 1, 2024 and March 31, 2025 and works with a population who may experience mental illness, substance use, disability, HIV/AIDS and other chronic illness.
Must pass local and state background checks and have a valid driver's license.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, and/kneel. They must also use hands to type, handle and feel. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10lbs. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
