Job Summary:
The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) is a registered professional nurse with the primary responsibility for the overall administration of the clinical departments of the assigned office or location. The Assistant Director of Nursing monitors appropriate staffing and coordinates care with the interdisciplinary team, patient/family and referring agency. Assistant Director of Nursing reports to Director of Nursing or Regional Director of Nursing. May also be designated as the agency Supervising Nurse or Alternate Supervising nurse in accordance with the standards for the Health and Human Services Commission TAC- RULE §558.244.
Job Qualifications:
- Education: Graduate of an accredited Diploma, Associate or Baccalaureate School of Nursing
- Licensure: Current license as a registered nurse (RN) in Texas or in accordance with the Texas Board of Nursing’s rules for Nurse Licensure Compact NLC; Current Driver’s License
- Experience: Minimum one year of experience as a Registered Nurse within the last 36 months. One year in home healthcare and pediatric clinical care preferred. Management experience preferred.
- Skills: Nursing skills as defined as generally accepted standards of practice and demonstrated clinical competency. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively. Demonstrates proven decision-making skills. If required to make visits, need proof of current CPR. Must read, write and comprehend English.
- Transportation: Reliable transportation.
Environmental and Working Conditions:
Performs duties in an office environment during agency operating hours. If required to make patient visits, may work in patients home in various conditions; possible exposure to blood and bodily fluids and infectious diseases; the ability to work a flexible schedule; the ability to travel locally; some exposure to unpleasant weather; PRN emergency call. Must be available at all times either in person or via telecommunications.
Physical and Mental Effort:
Prolonged sitting required, with the ability to operate office equipment which may include heavy lifting, bending and standing. Requires the ability to handle stressful situations in a calm and courteous manner at all times. If required to make patient visits, prolonged standing and walking is required, with the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and move patients. Requires working under some stressful conditions to meet deadlines and patient needs, and to make quick decisions and resource acquisition.
Essential Functions
- Directs and coordinates clinical departments and branches; assumes responsibility for continuity, quality, and safety of services delivered in compliance with State and federal regulations.
- Participates in activities relevant to professional services including development of qualifications and assignment of agency personnel.
- Supervises and provides direction to subordinates to ensure quality, compliance with the Plan of Care and assessment and reassessment of patients’ needs and continuity of services by appropriate health care personnel.
- Monitors the QAPI Program and assures appropriate corrective measures are performed.
- Promotes compliance with all fiscal intermediary and/or other third-party payors, through education, coaching, and other assistance as necessary.
- Monitors systems and identifies problem areas to Director of Nursing, Regional Director of Nursing and Administrator both verbally and through written reports.
- Meets mandatory continuing education requirements of the agency and licensing board.
- Promotes and educates regarding the concepts of infection control and standard precautions in coordinating/performing patient care activities to prevent contamination and transmission of disease.
- Uses effective interpersonal relations and communication skills; facilitates the use of these skills by other team members to achieve desirable outcomes.
- Coordinates with Director of Nursing and/or Regional Director of Nursing as needed
- Other functions and responsibilities as designated
