GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving quality food while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
STANDARD REQUIREMENTS:
- Is knowledgeable of resident rights and ensures an atmosphere which allows for the privacy, dignity and well-being of all residents in a safe, secure environment
- Supports and cooperates with specific procedures and programs for:
- Safety, including universa! precautions and safe work practices, established fire/safety/disaster plans, risk management, and security, report and/or correct unsafe working conditions, equipment repair and maintenance needs
- Confidentiality of all data including resident, employee and operations data
- Quality Improvement and compliance with all regulatory requirements
- Compliance with current law and policy to provide a work environment free from sexual harassment and all illegal discriminatory behavior
- Cooperates and works together with all co-workers
- Uses tactful, appropriate communications in sensitive and emotional situations
- Follows up as appropriate with supervisor, co-workers or residents regarding reported complaints, problems and concerns
- Completes requirements for in-service training, acceptable attendance, uniform and dress codes including personal hygiene, and other work duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare and serve meals that are palatable and appetizing in accordance with portion control, therapeutic diets, scheduled menus, and sanitary regulations.
- Review menus prior to preparation of food and inspect special
- Wash, cut, slice, and prepare fruits and vegetables for salads, desserts or further cooking.
- Pan food for service on tray line.
- Cook food progressively, in a timely manner, to present the food in its best possible condition.
- Assists in unloading, inspecting and storing incoming food and verify packing Iists.
- Keeps kitchen clean and orderly by washing counters and cooking utensils, and by cleaning stoves, ovens , grills and refrigerators.
- Plates food to order and ensures that meal times are met.
- Ensures that food is served and maintained at the correct temperature.
- Maintains temperature logs.
- Is knowledgeable in food safety, sanitation, and time & temperature requi rements.
- Understands recipes and portion control.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend simpIe instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations .
