Job Title: Tool Maker

Reports To: Tooling Supervisor / Production Manager
Business Overview: Spiral Arts is a small manufacturing company that makes tools and equipment for glassblowing. We are an industry leader with and excellent reputation for quality and innovation. The product lines consists of glass melting furnaces, glory holes, ovens, and hand tools, just to name a few. As a small team, Spiral Arts team members work closely and collaboratively throughout the production process.
Job Summary:
Spiral Arts is seeking a skilled Tool Maker to fabricate and repair precision tools used for glassblowing and the fabrication of dies and jigs used in manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have strong machining skills, attention to detail, and experience working with CNC and manual equipment to meet exact specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
· Manufacture precision tools, molds, jigs, fixtures, and dies from blueprints, sketches, or CAD models
· Operate manual and CNC machines such as lathes, mills, grinders
· Perform tool repairs and modifications to support production requirements
· Repair tools customers want refurbished
· Conduct quality checks and ensure dimensional accuracy using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, etc.)
· Collaborate with engineers, machinists, and production staff to solve tooling and design issues
· Maintain accurate records of work performed, tooling inventory, and maintenance logs
· Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area
In addition to the necessary skills listed below, a tool maker at Spiral Arts must be professional in appearance and approach to the job, must pay close attention to detail, and have the ability to work with and direct others. As a member of a small and agile team, a positive attitude and excellent communications skills are a must-have.
Requirements:
· High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or apprenticeship in Tool & Die Making preferred
· 3 years of experience as a Tool Maker or in a related machining role
· Proficient in reading technical drawings and blueprints
· Strong knowledge of machining processes and materials
· Experience with CNC programming (a plus)
· Excellent hand-eye coordination and attention to detail
· Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
· Stand for long periods of time
· Use of hands to handle tools and operate machinery
