POSITION SUMMARY:

The Construction Project Estimator will gather, evaluate, and then prepare detailed total cost information for cost-effectiveness throughout the construction bid process. They may be required to perform site visits at jobsites to gather information, analyze proposals, specifications, blueprints, and construction documents to understand the project. Estimators work closely with project managers to coordinate and oversee the vendors and/or subcontractors in the bid process. They determine the time, labor, equipment, materials, and product costs for the project and communicate the requirements to the client. An estimator works primarily in an office environment but may visit construction sites occasionally as needed to obtain necessary information.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collect and analyze requirement documents, blueprints, project plans and specifications to gain a thorough understanding of the project.
  • Determine what factors of production will influence the cost of a service or product.
  • Visit job sites, analyze bid for completeness and price, assemble bid information, and prepare take-offs.
  • Identify materials, tasks and subcontractors required for bid.
  • Provide all subcontractors with drawings and specifications prior to the bid process.
  • Attend the pre-bid meetings if needed.
  • Prepare material estimates and cost estimates for the product or service and present them to management and owner.
  • Create labor estimates for projects.
  • Meet, develop and maintain working relationships with company vendors and subcontractors to improve negotiation endeavors.
  • Manage bids from vendors and subcontractors.
  • Execute subcontractor agreements.
  • Review job scope and assemble spec books for Superintendents and communicate needs to Project Manager.
  • Develop scopes and pricing for change orders.
  • Regularly analyze job costs in comparison to estimates with company executives and Project Manager.
  • Assist the Project Manager in working on cost management
  • Work with the Project Manager and superintendents in purchasing as needed.
  • Stay informed of trends and issues in construction processes and materials.
  • Be responsible for the ongoing development of systems and processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB SKILLS & ABILITIES GUIDELINES:

  • Experience in estimating commercial construction projects
  • Able to read, understand and follow required construction documents
  • Proficient in construction estimating software (BlueBeam, MS Suite)
  • Strong math skills including algebra, geometry, and basic arithmetic
  • Above average computer skills
  • Ability to navigate specifications and plans
  • Critical thinking skills with ability to problem solve and make effective decisions
  • Proficiency in demonstrating proposals and projects
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously using good time management skills
  • Knowledge of the latest building codes
  • Close attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills & strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Outstanding research skills
  • Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in General Construction or equivalent (preferred).
  • 3-5 years of industry experience.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
