What are the responsibilities and job description for the Detailing Manager position at STRUCTURAL STEEL?
SS&PF is a locally owned business founded in 1976 and located North Salt Lake, Utah. Our plant consists of 18 acres and includes 100,000 square feet of production area. With more than 100 teammates, we fabricate both simple and complex projects for the western US industrial market.
SS&PF needs a competent Detailing Manager who can work on projects that span from simple to complex overseeing the front end of our business in the detailing department.. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Manage the outsourcing of detailing contracts
- Check detailing performed by subcontractors.
- Oversee and participate in programing and internal detailing
- Create accurate fabrication drawings from design drawings provided by customers.
- Communicate with customers for RFI’s.
- Create and maintain a project library for repeat projects.
- Detail small structural packages and assemblies
- Detail formed vessels, towers, cones, and other atypical plate work projects.
- Interface with Project managers, Detailers, Programmers, and Purchasing to ensure project accuracy.
Requirements
EDUCATION: AS, AAS, BA, or BS in Drafting, Engineering Design, Steel Detailing or related experience
EXPERIENCE: REQUIRED
- 5 Years in Steel Detailing
- 2 years Checking Drawings
- 3 Years using Tekla Structures (or SDS2) and AutoCAD
APTITUDE:
- A high level of computer acumen
- Good learning dexterity
Preferences
- Knowledge of AISC, ASME, AWS, and other pertinent codes
- Tank and Vessel Design
- Plate layout (formed material)
Compensation & Hours
Hourly in $105K-$135K Annual Salary (based on experience and qualifications)
- Hiring bonus $10,000 paid over 18 Months
- 401K savings plan with discretionary company contributions (3-year historical average for profit sharing contributions is 2%)

- Dental and vision insurance are both available, but not provided
- Vacation will be three weeks, or fifteen business days. During the first year of employment this vacation is to be used at no more than eight days in the first six months
- Every other Friday off
- 4 x 9-hour shifts Monday through Thursday
- 1 x 4-hour shift on Friday
