Job Title: Director of Engineering

What we are looking for:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced structural or construction engineer to join our team in Dublin, OH. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing a best-in-class engineering group. This individual will have direct control of engineering personnel and will be in charge of designing and analyzing structural components and systems for a variety of projects. You will work closely with clients, contractors, and other engineers to ensure that our designs meet both functional and aesthetic requirements while adhering to all relevant codes and regulations.
Responsibilities:
Overseeing all engineering projects that are assigned to the employee and leading project teams in a collaborative environment.
Providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, drafters and technical personnel.
Help train technicians to perform some of the simpler tasks to help SDC gain better operational efficiency.
Collaborating with the management team to develop project strategies and goals.
Assist in the creation of company processes and procedure creation to ensure:
1. The highest operation efficiency possible
2. Reduce the possibility of design flaws and errors to near-zero
3. Keep customer satisfaction near a 5-star rating.
Learn, develop, and grow our standards and processes for our chosen design types. This includes earth retention systems, structural underpinning, falsework plans, causeway plans, cofferdam plans, jacking plans for bridge beams and structural bridge beam erection plans. SDC will assist you in learning these new design types.
Assist in the development of different types of business that can lead to more revenue streams for the company. Examples of opportunities are in residential design/inspection, and development of commercial and industrial businesses in structural engineering.
Ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
Reviewing and approving project designs and reports that were completed by other SDC engineers.
Managing client relationships and project timelines.
Bi-weekly “one-on-one” meetings with your direct report to discuss career goals and progress with personal and company goals.
On-site inspections will be necessary. Reimbursement for mileage will be as per the current IRS rates. SDC must be added as an additional insured on your automotive insurance policy.
Perform structural analysis and design for buildings, bridges, and other structures using industry-standard software and methodologies.
Help prepare detailed structural drawings and specifications.
Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other stakeholders to develop cost-effective and innovative solutions.
Conduct site visits and inspections to assess existing structures and provide recommendations for repairs or modifications.
Create, review and approve shop drawings to be submitted to the client.
Participate in project meetings and communicate effectively with clients and team members.
Stay current with developments in structural engineering codes, standards, and technologies.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of Ohio.
10 years ( ) of engineering experience in a contractor, owner or consultant role.
Proficiency in structural analysis software is preferred.
Strong understanding or an ability to learn building codes and regulations, including ASCE, IBC, and AISC.
Steel, concrete, and retaining wall design skills are a plus.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.
