As the Senior Mechanical Engineer, Research and Development (R&D), you will be responsible for performing implant and instrument design work, leading small projects, and actively participating on multi-functional teams to advance assigned projects through the design/development process through launch to the market for Stryker’s Interventional Spine (IVS) business unit within Stryker Instruments.

What You Will Do
- Under minimal supervision, design, develop, modify, and verify mechanical components for medical devices.
- Under minimal supervision, work with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing and Project Management to ensure project success.
- Translate design inputs to engineering specifications and produce sub-system level designs.
- Apply fundamental and some advanced concepts, practices and procedures for problem solving. Develop and analyze solutions, prototyping one or more options to provide proof of concept.
- Demonstrate proficiency with product’s intended use and clinical procedures. Demonstrate advanced understanding of customer needs and design inputs.
- Follow fundamental industry standards, design requirements and test strategies which apply to regulatory requirements.
- Independently create or refine engineering documentation, such as the Design History file
- Follow R&D procedure like design controls and risk management, per the Quality Management System.
- Work on complex problems, applying advanced experience and learnings; while demonstrating ownership and prioritization of work with minimal supervision.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, BioMedical, or related discipline.
- 2 years of work experience in mechanical design engineering.
- Working knowledge and understanding of mechanical engineering practices and design principles.
- Knowledge of design and concept generation CAD or CAE modeling tools (Creo preferred)
- Knowledge of analysis tools (i.e. DFMECA, Fault Tree Analysis, FEA, Stack-ups, etc.) and statistical methods (i.e. leveraging Minitab for ANOVA, normality testing, confidence calculations, etc.).
- Technical ability to create engineering drawings and models, applying GD&T and CAE tools.
- Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes to product design.
