Overview
Stryten Energy in the Fort Smith, AR area, operates a growing battery manufacturing factory. Through the Industrial Power division, we are an essential business that produces batteries, services and solutions for the Motive and Network Power industries.
The Maintenance Supervisor will oversee the daily maintenance activities within our plant, ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of production and support equipment. This position provides direct supervision to maintenance technicians, tool crib attendants, system tender personnel, and contractors. The role is crucial in maintaining a safe work environment, managing budgets, fostering team collaboration, and delivering effective department training.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES & AUTHORITIES:

- Work effectively with plant engineering and all other departments to establish operational efficiency of production equipment, which relate to elimination of recurring equipment issues, continuous improvement, equipment modular quick change and setup reduction.
- Manage the Maintenance Department to ensure maximum utilization of maintenance employees that will keep the plant running efficiently and minimizing equipment downtime
- Develop and maintain a working relationship with all departments and management insuring an ongoing connection with production teams
- Ensure equipment is maintained to comply with all environmental and health and safety requirements
- Learn all the mechanical and electrical requirements for the equipment
- Provide technical training and guidance for maintenance, supervisors and employees on equipment
- Supervise and direct Team Lead to effectively implement and improve the Preventive Maintenance (PM) program, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) process, Predictive Maintenance (PdM) techniques and Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED or Quick) changeovers
- Minimize and / or eliminate reactive maintenance issues
- Comply with local, state, and federal guidelines as specified in codes.
- Comply with plant safety, health and personnel policies
- Meet budget requirements with regard to manning and other departmental costs
- Hands-on approach required at times in assisting subordinates at meeting deadlines
- Comply with current Quality Systems requirements
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability necessary to do this job
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS:
- Associate’s degree in related field or a minimum of 6 years experience in the field of Mechanical Engineering or Maintenance operations
- Proven leadership experience with significant and verifiable results
- 3 – 4 years experience supervising line staff in industrial manufacturing environment with excellent track record of business results
- Battery or charger manufacturing experience preferred
- Experience working in a union manufacturing plant a plus
COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE:
- Working knowledge of Excel and Microsoft Word and Outlook.
- Effective coaching and mentoring skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to give and share information to/with co-workers, customers and production management in order to achieve optimum plant performance
- Good organization/administrative and time management skills.
- Ability to work on multiple tasks in a fast paced environment.
- High energy, self motivated, ability to be successful without direct supervision.
- Effective coaching and mentoring skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to give and share information to/with co-workers, customers and production management in order to achieve optimum plant performance
- Knowledge of industrial batteries and chargers a plus
- Knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems to effectively manage all aspects of the maintenance operation. i.e. MRO, work order system, and Preventive / Predictive operation.
- Background in supplier quality systems or maintenance management systems preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, individual is regularly required to stand; use hands to grasp, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Individual is frequently required to look from side to side. Individual is occasionally required to walk, use both hands to manipulate, control or set; bend their neck to look up and down, bend their waist to reach for things below their shoulders and hips; operate foot controls in a repetitive movement; hear verbal instructions and equipment traffic around them.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 40 lbs. on a daily basis and regularly lift, push or pull 41 to 150 lbs. with assistance of equipment on a daily to weekly basis.
- Individual is frequently required to use brazing torch, hand tools, and to occasionally use air tools and a touch screen computer screen.
- Regular use of safety glasses, gloves, uniforms, steel toed boots and welding or cutting goggles at all times in the plant (provided by employer) and use of respirator as necessary.
- Vision requirements: 20/40 or better, depth perception and full field view.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

- While performing the duties of this job, individual is regularly exposed to molten lead, dust and heavy metals, like lead, and cadmium.
- Individual occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals like acid and risk of electrical shock or causing electrical shock.
- Individual is regularly exposed to extreme heat and humidity during the summer months in a plant that is not air conditioned.
- Individual is occasionally exposed to odors, moving machinery (different types of forklifts and pallet jacks).
- Individual is regularly exposed to lead, lead dust, epoxy (gluing at another in the immediate area), gases (natural gas and oxygen), solvents (isopropyl alcohol), and occasionally paint.
- Noise level is minimal to loud where hearing protection is offered but not required, and the surroundings are clean to dirty.
- Travel may be required within North America
