The Structural Designer will lead various phases of planning, site evaluations, analytical designs, report preparation, specification development, and the creation of proposals, construction documentation, and structural plans as part of a project team. This role will work on a diverse range of projects across multiple industries and clients. Waterfront experience, including wharf and dock design, as well as heavy waterfront structures, is required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of detailed construction drawings for steel and reinforced concrete structures, utilizing structural specifications, engineering calculations, sketches, and design data while adhering to project standards and procedures.
- Oversee drawing production, including problem analysis, design layout, and calculations for complex and non-routine assignments.
- Manage design efforts for various industrial, manufacturing, and commercial projects, including facility modifications and new construction.
- Conduct quality reviews of 2D drafting and 3D modeling tasks to ensure compliance with engineering standards and procedures.
- Oversee assignments involving drawing sequencing, presentation, system component sizing, and refining of preliminary sketches.
- Perform quality reviews of structural designs, sketches, and redlines/markups on ongoing projects.
- Prepare structural calculations and review design codes and specifications related to structural requirements.
- Design and draft structural elements and details.
- Review and ensure that design drawings align with project scope, budget, and schedule.
- Integrate schedules, budgets, and project criteria into structural designs and layouts.
- Approve project drawing revisions, plot files, and project-related documentation in an organized and structured manner.
- Train, mentor, and develop junior drafting, detailing, and design staff.
- Participate in marketing and client development meetings.
- Lead the structural design quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) process.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Comply with all company policies and industry standards.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in drafting technology or a related field with 13 years of relevant experience, OR
- Associate degree with 14 years of relevant experience, OR
- 15 years of progressive detailing and design experience in lieu of a degree.
- Advanced proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, and Excel to develop design deliverables.
- Expertise in structural design, calculations, and design systems.
- Strong knowledge of structural engineering principles, including the ability to apply concepts from related disciplines as needed.
- Proficiency in structural design software and the ability to execute production tasks efficiently.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with project managers, engineers, and designers in a multi-discipline project team environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
