The Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Superintendent oversees field operations on assigned projects to ensure the safe, timely, and profitable completion of each project. This role involves planning, organizing, and supervising specific aspects of construction work within an assigned area of a project. Responsibilities include managing construction schedules related to T&D activities and ensuring subcontractors complete contractual construction activities efficiently. The superintendent ensures job continuity, maximizes efficiency, and upholds safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the following project activities: high-voltage transmission lines, transmission line steel and wood structures, drilled piers, spread footings, grounding, environmental requirements, substation equipment, substation structures, substation electrical systems, and substation controls.
- Supervise construction efforts, including safety, productivity, material and equipment usage, materials management, scheduling, engineering, and contractual performance.
- Ensure subcontractors comply with contractual obligations related to T&D construction activities.
- Build effective relationships with clients and subcontractors. Act as the interface with client representatives, A/E representatives, and other contractors.
- Collaborate with project management to develop and implement project procedures, working documents, and standards.
- Authorize purchase requisitions, field design change requests, and related documents under the supervision of the Construction Manager and Project Manager.
- Ensure overall project safety by reviewing and auditing site-specific safety documentation, including Pre-Task Analysis (PTAs) and Task Safety Observations (TSOs), regularly.
- Complete daily field reports and document construction progress through photographs.
- Review future work activities and address concerns with work plans using subcontractor 3-week lookahead reports.
- Develop marked-up and as-built drawings to produce record set documents and respond to RFIs with assistance from the Assistant Project Manager or Field Engineer.
- Direct and manage subcontractors to adhere to the project schedule and track progress based on installed quantities and work hours.
- Verify material deliveries meet specifications, are stored properly, and ensure subcontractors perform preventative maintenance or temporary heating (as coordinated with the Materials Manager).
- Coordinate with the QA/QC Manager to ensure all welders on-site are qualified for the project.
- Witness equipment setting and alignment processes.
- Conduct system walkthroughs before, during, and after hydrostatic testing to verify compliance with drawings and specifications. Sign off on completed system testing and restoration.
- Develop punch lists for items out of compliance or incomplete.
- Ensure the latest drawing revisions are utilized in the field.
- Understand and execute the project scope, including managing changes. Ensure field change orders are implemented as necessary.
- Oversee craft supervision and project staffing requirements.
- Manage site material and tool usage effectively.
- Supervise daily field construction activities in accordance with the company’s policies, procedures, systems, and requirements.
- Direct daily physical construction efforts through coordination of all field activities, subcontractor management, and compliance with codes and specifications.
- Read, interpret, and understand isometric drawings, structural drawings, and P&IDs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree with 7 years of construction management or craft supervision experience on T&D projects, or
- Associate Degree with 9 years of experience in the same fields, or
- High School Diploma/GED with 11 years of relevant experience.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Strong safety background and commitment to maintaining safety standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to meet the company’s driving requirements.
