Position Summary
Placements will assist trails and recreation staff in the Wrangell Ranger District of the Tongass National Forest. Placements may use power tools, chainsaws, and hand tools to build and maintain trails around the Wrangell area. Projects may include-but are not limited to-brushing trails, removing hazard or downed trees, building new trail, building new trail structures, clearing drainages, repairing trail tread, performing trail assessments, and campground and cabin maintenance. Placements may be required to operate ATV/OHVs, chainsaws, power brushers, and agency vehicles, for which the agency partner will provide adequate training. Placements will be provided forest service housing but should expect to camp in remote areas for up to 10 days at a time in a wet environment with biting insects while on certain projects.

Driver's license.
Comfortable camping up to 10 days at a time in a wet environment among biting insects like mosquitos.
This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans aged 35 or younger, at the start of the position. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.

Living Accommodations
Housing will be in a shared Forest Service bunkhouse or cabin. Common areas will be shared, and the intern may share a room with one other person.
Compensation
$450/week living allowance
$1500 one-time roundtrip travel stipend
$2000 reimbursable duty-related expenses ($500 for personal protective equipment and $1500 for duty-travel)
Eligible for AmeriCorps Award of $1,956.35 (requires 450 hours)
All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
