Clairton Green Initiatives Fellowship
Position Summary
Watersheds of South Pittsburgh (WoSPgh) is seeking a paid seasonal intern to coordinate our Clairton Greenspace Initiative. The Clairton Greenspace Intern position will be 16 hours per week, seasonal, beginning in May 2025 through December 2025.
Located along the Monongahela River in the southern environs of Allegheny County, the City of Clairton is beset by many challenges including: vacant and distressed land, population loss, limited access to fresh vegetables, and loss of significant tree canopy. For the last five years, WoSPgh has been stewarding and coordinating greenspace improvements through the creation of the Clairton Greenspace Working Group, a collective of more than 20 Clairton residents dedicated to improving the environmental health of the community. WoSPgh and the Clairton Greenspace Working Group sustain and maintain the Clairton Community Garden, as well as coordinate vacant lot care, streetscape beautification, tree plantings, and community litter cleanups.
Our work in Clairton has always included the concerns and wishes of the community and we remain dedicated to including the voices of the residents in prioritizing areas of concern and projects of interest. With the assistance of our new Clairton Greenspace Intern, WoSPgh and the Clairton Greenspace Working Group will expand and continue to engage residents through hands-on programming in the Community Garden, streetscape beautification and litter cleanups each year.
