Compliance Assistant
Position Dates: 06/02/25 - 10/31/25 (22 weeks)
About us:
The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is the largest provider of hands-on environmental conservation programs for youth and adults. Program participants protect and restore national parks, national forests, wildlife refuges, marine sanctuaries, cultural landmarks, community green spaces, and much more across the country.
Program Description:
The project entails providing cultural resource support to the Powder River Group of Parks.
The primary work involves assisting parks in the Powder River Group (Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area, Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument, Devils Tower National Monument, and Fort Laramie National Historic Site) with their cultural and general compliance duties. Work requires providing information, and presentations in person, by phone, email, and standard mail to various stakeholders. Member will also draft reports for work completed in a timely fashion. Work will be accomplished with exact time deadlines and requires accountability and attention to detail.
Work involves researching, developing, and presenting on topics, specifically related to projects that are being developed or ongoing in any of the parks. Presentations will be given in a group and individual basis. Staff are required to create written communication that initiate consultation and provide status updates as a regular part of the job. Work will also involve creating baseline documentation and systems development.
Collateral duties may include assisting with other resource-related projects, as well as other general tasks.

Member Perks:
Students will benefit from the experience and mentorship provided by the Powder River Group's archeology staff. They will gain first-hand experience in providing a variety of services including research design, project development, and archeological evaluation. They will learn appropriate methods for assessing archeological sites and providing superior report writing. The experiences and knowledge they gain through this position will benefit them in securing future employment opportunities in the field of archeology.
Member Qualifications:
This work requires strong customer service skills, the capacity to learn information quickly, strong communication skills, particularly writing, the ability to evaluate archeological resources, and teamwork. People who enjoy working with the public, who have motivated personalities, and who can work independently to meet deadlines will be excellent candidates for this position.
- Proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint computer software is required. Ability to learn and use additional software is required, particularly ArcGIS Pro.

Additional Information:
The position requires hiking a variety of front-country and backcountry trails and routes over rough terrain in all weather conditions. This position requires excellent teamwork ability, communication skills, customer service skills, flexibility, a positive attitude, and the ability to follow directions and the chain of command.
