About
The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is the largest provider of hands-on environmental conservation programs for youth and adults. Program participants protect and restore national parks, national forests, wildlife refuges, marine sanctuaries, cultural landmarks, community green spaces, and much more across the country.
Program Description
The Education Coordinator Internship supports PreK-12 education programming at the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park (Park) in Cumberland, Maryland or Great Falls Park, Maryland. This position serves more than 2,000 local students each year. Programs include hands-on activities and focus on history, nature, science, technology, math, and environmental science.
Internship duties include: program scheduling, managing supplies and materials, assisting with program delivery, helping to coordinate special events, and research. Most education interns also complete an education-related project, some examples include: development of new education programming, content research, summer youth programming, family programs, traveling trunks. Interns will also be expected to learn about the Park and National Park Service, and will have ample opportunities to attend workshops, training course, shadow other park staff, etc. The position will be stationed at park headquarters and will report daily to the Park's Education Program Coordinator regarding projects, programs, training opportunities, etc.
Compensation
- One-time travel allowance: $1,100* pretax ,(personal vehicle required)
- Weekly living allowance: $600* / week, pretax
- AmeriCorps Education Award valued at $4,826.50 *upon successful completion of the internship meeting 1200 hours, pretax.

This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans aged 35 or younger, at the start of the position. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.

- Must be eligible to serve as an AmeriCorps Member. This includes:
- Being a citizen, permanent resident, or national of the United States;
- Being at least 18 years or older;
- Having a high school diploma or equivalent;
- Being willing to undergo National Service Criminal History Check, including criminal background, sex offender and FBI checks.
