Position Summary
The FE Warren Air Force Base (FEW) Student Conservation Association (SCA) intern will assist the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) biologist with fieldwork to support the FEW environmental/natural resources branch. The natural resources/environmental branch of FEW is responsible for implementing the Integrated Natural Resources Management Plan (INRMP). This intern position will support the USFWS fish and wildlife biologist in conducting fieldwork that is required under the INRMP.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Duties will involve the collection, organization, and entry of all field data as part of an intensive control plan on identified invasive plant species and treatment mapping effort. The intern will become familiar with federally threatened plant and mammal species and learn how to conduct work in sensitive areas, and work with Service staff to enter field data. This position will involve recreational trail management of existing trails to address overgrown vegetation and invaded areas. Additional tasks will involve water quality monitoring of lakes, streams, and creeks on military lands. Equally, fish stocking/creel surveys will take place in designated military recreational areas. The intern will use GPS units to target invasive plant areas throughout various sites. Invasive plant mapping, trail management efforts, habitat modification efforts, and shortgrass prairie restoration will occur on military land. Invasive plant species control will primarily be accomplished through mechanical and chemical treatments along with the use of bio-control agents, broadcast revegetation with native seed may occur in certain instances. Trail management, habitat modification, and restoration will be accomplished using hand tools and light power tools. Duties may also include light equipment maintenance, trail/material clean-up, and other tasks such as mowing. Lastly, the work will involve wildlife management of species such as Canada geese, pronghorn, and beaver; and at times require the removal of nuisance species. The intern may also be assigned to other projects to include black-footed ferret reintroduction program and an installation hunting program. Work will be primarily outside, with a minor amount of office related duties, and prefer the intern be familiar with boats/boating and trail camera usage.
Marginal Duties
Pest Detection Trapping or Weed Biocontrol activities which may occur with USDA as a cooperating department.
Required Qualifications
Possess a BSc. related to Biology, Zoology or Wildlife Management & Conservation.
Preferred Qualifications
1 year of experience with biological field work (i.e. wildlife surveys). An eye for detail, as accurate and precise data collection and entry is essential. Excellent interpersonal skills, experience working with other field staff. A high level of physical fitness. Clean driving record.

40 per week
Living Accommodations
Living accommodation will be the responsibility of the member.
Compensation
Member Living Allowance-$450 a week;
Member Commuting Allowance-$25 a week;
Duty-Related Travel and Other Reimbursable Expenses-$1,500;
Member Roundtrip Travel Allowance-$1,100;
Member Housing Allowance-$1,000 per month;
All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
