Job Title: Program Coordinator, MA Corps

Reports To: Program Manager – New England

Status: Full-Time Temporary, Exempt

Salary: $1,923 - $2,115 bi-weekly

Location: Massachusetts (Hybrid-Remote)

Position Dates: May, 2025 – December 12th 2025

Position Summary
The Student Conservation Association provides an array of corps and crew programming across the country. The Massachusetts Conservation Corps (MACC) is a 6-month AmeriCorps program that trains young adults in conservation and leadership skills through hands-on service at state parks and public lands throughout Massachusetts. To this end, MACC continues its 27-year partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). It operates as an AmeriCorps program, allowing crew members to dedicate a term of service while gaining experience in the field.
The coordinator is a full-time, hybrid/remote staff position. The salary range for this position is $1,923 $2,115 bi-weekly.
The Program Coordinator position ensures the technical, logistical, and administrative tasks associated with executing SCA's various programs in the MACC portfolio are completed. This person ensures Corps Members and Project Leaders are equipped for program delivery and comply with curriculum and AmeriCorps mandates, safety controls, logistical service/program delivery needs, and mandatory internal record-keeping. This position reports to the Program Manager-New England and has multiple direct reports at various levels of responsibility and locations throughout Massachusetts.
The Program Coordinator will serve in 6 key areas:
  • Project planning and delivery.
  • Supervision/Mentorship and support of Project Leaders and Members.
  • Training and skills development for program members and project leaders, including Trail Construction & Maintenance, habitat management, and Tool Use and Maintenance.
  • Tool /Equipment Cache & vehicle management, budget accountability, and purchasing.
  • External partner and community engagement as an SCA representative.
  • Program Administration including approval of timecards, filing incident reports, tracking program outcomes, and partner communication.
Roles and Responsibilities
Project Planning & Delivery:
  • Serve as the program's primary liaison - schedule and manage rotating projects in collaboration with service partners.
  • Actively assess project and environmental risks to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Serve as a technical adviser and project support in collaboration with the Program Manager.
  • Directly supervise Project Leaders and Corps Members.
  • Monitor and assess the quality & technique of the project work performed to assure partner and SCA standards are met.
  • Manage project service logs, assuring data integrity.
  • Review and approve direct reports timesheets within timelines set by SCA.
Supervision/Mentorship:
  • Responsible for modeling, facilitating, and fostering an environment where every individual feels valued, supported, and empowered to contribute to their fullest potential.
  • Ensure programs are aligned with SCA Core Values including Belonging & Connection, Collaboration, and Safety & Preparedness.
  • Participation in ongoing staff training and professional development opportunities.
  • Serve as part of the emergency response call tree for the program.
Training & Skills Development:
  • Assure Corps Members and Project Leaders are trained for the safe, proficient, and effective delivery of program service activities.
  • Promote leadership development within the team and complete scheduled formal evaluations.
  • Assist with SCA's conservation service curriculum development, documentation, and implementation.
Tool/Equipment Cache & Vehicles:
  • Ensure the program equipment cache is organized, secured, inventoried, and compliant with SCA and partner guidelines.
  • Assist in managing the acquisition, maintenance, and coordination of program vehicles.
  • Ensure program teams have all the required tools and equipment to complete service activities.
External Engagement:
  • Collaborate with program partners to develop, schedule, and implement project plans and site visits.
  • Assist Program Manager in building relationships with community partners.
  • Represent SCA at industry relevant conferences and events.
  • Role model SCA mission and values to program partners and the public.
Program Administration:
  • Assist Program Manager with administrative duties, such as financial reporting and tracking.
  • Develop a tool and equipment purchase plan that aligns with the budget.
  • Facilitate regular evaluations of Project Leaders and Corps Members.
  • Report, track, and respond to incidents in accordance with SCA policies and procedures.
  • Stay up to date with SCA and AmeriCorps policies, procedures, and other requirements.
  • Assist Program Manager with developing systems for ongoing program quality and improvement.
Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience demonstrating the skills related to the position
  • Minimum of 21 years of age
  • Valid driver's license and MVR that meets SCA standards
  • Ability to travel on a regular basis for programming purposes
  • Previous trail construction and maintenance experience required
  • Carpentry experience related to trail structures required.
  • Tool and equipment maintenance experience required
  • Prior experience supervising others in an outdoor setting required
  • Current first aid and CPR or higher required or ability to obtain
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Able to work independently without daily in person supervision
  • Experience using and maintaining chainsaws including training/certification such as Game of Logging or USFS Developing Thinking Sawyers are preferred but not required
  • Griphoist/Rigging training and experience preferred but not required
Travel Requirements
  • Excellent driving record and ability to drive in a variety of conditions
  • The ability to travel for work for extended periods of time including hiking several miles for programmatic purposes
  • Must have a personal vehicle for required work travel, the employee is reimbursed the current IRS authorized mileage rate for miles incurred
