Position Summary
The Fresh Water Institute Summer Internship program is a partnership between Cuyahoga County and Student Conservation Association and it's the NOAA Climate Ready Workforce program. This internship is for young adults to gain workforce experience in the water economy in northeast Ohio. The water economy encompasses economic and social activities in which water is an important factor including watershed management, land use planning, industrial water products and technologies, and water and wastewater utilities. The water economy is one of the fastest growing sectors in Northeast Ohio and this internship program aims to connect the future workforce to this sector through positions in utility, government, nonprofit and/or the corporate sectors. The intern placed at the Fresh Water Institute will support the FWI Program Director in building the new program through research, program evaluation, and partnership engagement.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Intern will work collaboratively with the FWI Program Director and partners on projects related to strengthening Cuyahoga County's culture of freshwater stewardship, including:
- Researching regional water economy opportunities and challenges, with focus on climate resilience.
- Identifying and developing FWI learning opportunities for youth and young adults related to the water economy.
- Developing FWI Program communications.
- Building FWI Program evaluation tools.
Marginal Duties
- Participate in NOAA Climate Ready Workforce learning activities
- Attend Fresh Water Institute convenings
- Meet with the Fresh Water Institute Program Director regularly to discuss internship and the intern experience.
- Meet with Fresh Water Institute program partners and students.
Required Qualifications
- Must be a recent high school graduate, college student and/or recent college graduate .
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
- Must have the ability to legally work in the US
- Must be able to meet SCA's criminal background check standards
Preferred Qualifications
- Focus on environment, education industry, engineering, technology, public policy, or sustainability.
- Independent research and writing experience.
- Ability to work select evenings and Saturdays throughout the program.
- Resident of Cuyahoga County.
Hours
40 per week
Living Accommodations
No housing provided on site. A monthly housing stipend is provided.
Compensation
- $800/week living allowance
- $50/week commuting allowance
- $1,000/month housing allowance (3 disbursements)
- $1,100 Car Required To/From Transportation
All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
