Position Summary
Spend your spring and summer in the Northern Neck of Virginia, playing a vital role at Naval Support Facility Dahlgren as a Natural Resources Member. You will perform crucial tasks in support of our mission.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Conduct migratory bird nest inspections specifically focused on bluebirds, wood ducks, and ospreys, 25%. • Conduct herpetological surveys through the deployment of acoustical recorders, traps, and visual surveys with the focus on confirming the presence of potential species, 25%. • Meadow and early successional habitat maintenance, 20%.
Marginal Duties
• Conduct migratory bird surveys assisting the contractor with mist netting as well as conducting bobwhite quail and nightjar counts, 15%. • Conduct insect surveys assisting the contractor with odonata and lepidoptera inventorying as well as Monarch butterfly tagging, 10%.
Required Qualifications
• Driver’s license required. Personal vehicle recommended for commuting. • Monday-Friday schedule with an estimated 40 hours a week expected. No evening, weekend, or holiday work will be required.
Preferred Qualifications
• Local candidates are preferred due to lack of housing; however, non-local candidates will be considered if they can find their own housing. • Training for all projects will be provided in-house. Emergent educational opportunities would be granted as appropriate to the position and as the member’s workload allows.

Compensation
• Weekly living allowance: $350 • One-time travel allowance: $1100 • Eligible for a 450-hour AmeriCorps education award worth $1,718.25, upon successful completion of service • Public Land Credits are available upon successful completion of this term for members ages 18-30.
