Position Summary
Crew will spend the summer working and learning within the Recreation division of the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest on the Snoqualmie Ranger District in Enumclaw, WA

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest on the Snoqualmie Ranger District in Enumclaw, WA. Crew will work about 1 / 3 of their time in each department : trails, Wilderness, and frontcountry recreation (trailhead and dispersed sites), and work with Forest Service crew members. Crew will perform maintenance tasks at developed and dispersed recreation sites such as cleaning toilets, trash collection, and public contacts. In trails, crew will perform trail maintenance tasks as including logout of Wilderness trails with crosscut saw, brushing, and drainage maintenance. In Wilderness, crew will assist in public contact ranger patrols, including maintenance of toilets, removal of illegal campfire rings, and collecting trail condition and campsite condition information. Maintaining and restoring sites that visitors use for recreational purposes helps to prevent resource damage and minimize impact on the land. Facilities maintenance is a necessary way to minimize sanitation impacts throughout the forest. Crew will educate visitors on Leave No Trace principles that will reduce negative impacts on the Snoqualmie Ranger District. The Crew will spend their summer alongside the Forest Service, and they will be exposed to the diverse range of career opportunities within the US Forest Service. Backpacking and camping out is a part of the trails and Wilderness work assignment.
Marginal Duties
1. Maintains sanitary conditions at developed sites, roadside dispersed sites, and Wilderness camping areas. 2. Performs basic maintenance task across district recreation sites including trail maintenance 3. Installs and maintains information boards, travel signs, regulatory signs and other signs associated with recreation sites and safety. 4. Provides detailed information about recreation opportunities to Forest visitors and explains Forest Service regulations. 5. Collects visitor use data. 6. Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Driver's license
- Personal vehicle required
- Physically fit enough to carry a ~30 lb backpack and camping gear
- Willing to work independently & on a crew
This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.

Living Accommodations
Housing will be provided in the form of Trailer Bunkhouse Facilities. Trailers are rustic and simple but provide everything necessary for participants' stay.
Compensation
1200 RT Travel Allowance
500 Weekly Living Allowance
Housing provided on site (see above)
550 Duty-Related Travel and Member Expenses (camping per diem). This is an out of pocket expense and receipts are required for tax-free reimbursement.
AmeriCorps Award, valued at $1,956 at fulfillment of internship & 450 service hours
