What are the responsibilities and job description for the Natural Resource Management Individual Placement position at Student Conservation Association?
Position Summary
This position will work directly with the park Biologist. The member will learn and perform tasks necessary to manage the natural resources of the park. The member will be part of the Natural Resource Management Team which currently has a Chief of Resources, Archaeologist, Biologist, and a Biological Science Technician.
The member will be exposed to a wide variety of task and skills related to resource management of a National Park Service Unit over the course of 12 weeks. Position starts April / May and lasts until August / September
Valuable project work that will benefit the community and environment include but are not limited to :
- Restoring native vegetation communities by removing non-native plants in high visitation areas of the park;
- Making fencing more wildlife friendly by removing it all together or replacing with smooth wire;
- Protecting archaeological sites from fire by thinning trees within sites;
- Restoring historical grasslands / pastures by removing invasive trees;
- Maintaining Beaver Enclosures around native cottonwood trees.

Required Qualifications
This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.
Preferred Qualifications
Position is primarily outdoor fieldwork. Work is physical in nature. Must have the ability to work well with others. Applicant must be on time for work always, dependable, and willing to work a flexible schedule.

There is no park housing available at Pecos NHP; member is responsible for securing their own housing in the local area (Pecos, Rowe, Santa Fe, Glorieta, and Las Vegas, NM.
