The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is seeking a motivated and skilled individual to join our trail maintenance team as a Trail Maintenance Specialist. This exciting opportunity will provide you with hands-on experience in maintaining trails in some of the most beautiful and remote areas of the Western United States.
About the Position
This position is ideal for those who are passionate about conservation and enjoy working outdoors. As a Trail Maintenance Specialist, you will be responsible for conducting trail assessments, clearing vegetation, repairing trail structures, and implementing best practices for sustainable trail management.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct trail assessments to identify areas that require maintenance
* Clear vegetation and debris from trails using hand tools and crosscut saws
* Repair trail structures, such as bridges and boardwalks, using traditional craftsmanship techniques
* Implement best practices for sustainable trail management, including minimizing erosion and preserving natural habitats
Requirements
* Must be 18 years old or older
* Ability to legally work in the US
* Ability to enroll in AmeriCorps Education Award Program
* Ability to pass SCA background check
* Must be able to attend Crew Member Training
* Full engagement in all work projects and community activities
Benefits
* $650 one-time round-trip travel allowance
* $300 weekly living allowance
* AmeriCorps eligibility (450-hour award, $1,956.35 education award)
* Meals provided during fieldwork
* Group camping gear, like tents, stoves, and filters, are provided
