Behavior Specialist
Position Title: Behavior Specialist

Position Overview:
Responsible for coordinating, developing, and monitoring behavioral services for students with moderate to severe behavioral needs. This will include both general and special education students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Student Support:
- Provide support services to students with social/emotional and/or behavioral needs, both special and general education, often in the form of skill training sessions
- Facilitates and conducts Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) for the purpose of developing individual support plans for students.
- Develops and facilitates Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)
- Design, plan, and implement behavior strategies, including Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies, and Social Skills Training for students with various special needs in school and in collaboration with community/home settings
- Provides continued support and monitoring of implemented behavior plans, including checks for fidelity
- Staff Support:
- Provide consultation to staff in developing systems and collecting data on progress toward goals in the areas of social/emotional and/or behavioral issues
- Provide modeling, training, coaching, and mentoring to Para-educators and teachers working with students with behavioral or social/emotional challenges
- Participates in Individual Education Plan (IEP) team meetings to collaborate and/or provide specially designed instruction to meet behavioral needs
- Implements and facilitates the collection of behavioral data to monitor progress and make data-driven decisions according to the needs of students with IEP goals and services
- Provide training and support to teachers and staff on behavior management strategies and best practices
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Collaborates with colleagues/site teams to determine the level of intervention required to address individual student behaviors. Works with site leadership to determine what constitutes a crisis situation, and appropriate roles.
- Ability to write, read, and interpret educational documents such as IEP’s, behavior reports, and behavior plans
- Ability to speak effectively and communicate information to all stakeholders
- Confidentiality and Professionalism:
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and classroom activities in accordance with district policies.
- Follow all school and district guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Uphold a professional demeanor and model appropriate behavior for students at all times.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's/Master's Degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or Psychology
- Experience: Experience working with students with moderate to severe behavioral and emotional issues., including conducting FBAs and behavior plans. Must be skilled in behavior intervention, be certified in “restraint training” or be willing at attend training and provide training for district staff
- Certifications:
? Arizona Teacher certification preferred
? IVP Fingerprint clearance card
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry instructional materials or classroom supplies up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to participate in physical restraints of students when necessary.
- Ability to kneel, bend, and assist with physical tasks that may be required in the classroom or during activities.
Working Conditions:
- The position will be performed primarily during school hours and may require occasional evenings for school events or meetings.
- Some duties may require standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods, and active supervision during recess or other outdoor activities.

- Salary: Placement on teacher salary schedule
- Benefits: Health insurance, retirement plan, paid time off, and other district benefits (if applicable).
