JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field is required.
Certification or Licensure: Certification by the state of Georgia as a school social worker is required.
Skills: Knowledge of the principles and methods of social work and their application in providing preventive and rehabilitative services. Ability to carry out the goals and objectives of the social work program. Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with the school district, community agencies, school staff, and parents. Ability to consult with administrators, teachers, and parents. Must conduct self in a professional manner. Strong time management and organizational skills. Ability to use computer programs and various software applications. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Excellent interpersonal and human relations skills.
Work Experience: Two years of experience as a social worker is required.
PRIMARY DUTY:
This position is responsible for providing a full range of social work services by serving as a liaison between the school, home, and community to support children and youth to prevent, minimize and/or remove psychological, social, and economic barriers to educational achievement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide a full range of social work services to schools and service sites in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
2. Determine the school district's need for specific social work services through consultation with the Principal and school staff and establish priorities for service delivery within assigned schools.
3. Perform specialized social work in educational settings to enable students to achieve optimal learning in academic, social, and emotional areas.
4. Collect, analyze, and interpret information needed to create appropriate services for schools, programs, students, and families.
5. Provide support to students and families dealing with crises and provide appropriate interventions as needed.
6. Consult with school personnel in assisting students experiencing physical, social, emotional, and adaptive problems.
7. Consult and plan with teachers and administrators in developing effective intervention plans relating to presenting problems.
8. Conduct home visits of students experiencing school difficulties to assess the home environment and determine the appropriate intervention.
9. Interpret educational laws and school policies for parents and/or guardians.
10. Consult with and solicit the support of community agencies in providing services to students experiencing problems.
11. Provide information to teachers and administrators regarding community agencies, resources, and referrals.
12. Collaborate with school staff in identifying potential at-risk students and providing crisis intervention services.
13. Ensure compliance with the Compulsory School Attendance Law.
14. Petition court to intervene in cases in violation of the Compulsory School Attendance Law.
15. Verify the legal residence of students.
16. Organize and maintain case management logs, reports, and other related documentation.
17. Recommend referrals to county agencies as required.
18. Attend and participate in professional development activities, workshops, seminars, and conferences in order to maintain expertise in the social work field.
19. Perform other duties as assigned by the School Social Worker Supervisor or designee.

Salary : $52,239 - $75,151
