What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instruction Support Specialist position at STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES?
Spotsylvania County Public Schools' Office of Student Support Services is seeking an Instruction Support Specialist to provide specialized support to teachers and paraeducators of students with disabilities as they are accessing general education and receiving support through high incidence resources in the county. Our student population with special needs is growing, and this position is critical to ensuring that the needs of all students are met.
Essential Functions:
- Serves as a member of an interdisciplinary team whose purpose is to provide appropriate educational programs for special needs students.
- Provides specialized support to teachers at all levels who need assistance in meeting the needs of students with learning disabilities and challenges.
- Provides specialized consultative support to Student Assistance Teams (SAT), Child Study Teams (CST), and Individualized Educational Plan Teams (IEP) to meet student needs in their educational settings.
- Assists in screening, evaluating and recommending placements of students for the division’s special education program.
- Keeps abreast of recent developments in education for special needs students and shows evidence of continuing professional growth.
- Complies with all special education procedures from the division wide Special Education Handbook and the Virginia State Regulations Governing Students with Disabilities.
- Develops and implements professional development programs as assigned.
- Leadership and coordination of Learning Support and Multiple Disabilities programs across the division.

Education and Experience:
Required
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Ability to obtain appropriate license(s) and/or endorsement(s) as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board
- An acceptable rating of prior teaching experience, as applicable.
Preferred
- Currently possesses a Virginia Collegiate Professional or Postgraduate Professional License within a specific endorsement area(s)
- Prior teaching experience within a public school system

Employment Terms: Employment may be offered as a 10-Month (200 Day), 10.5-Month (210 Day) - OR- 11-Month (220 Day) contract, at a minimum of 7.5 hours worked per day. This position is evaluated annually.
