Purchasing Manager

Sturdy Corporation designs, manufactures and assembles electronic automotive and marine controls, as well as LED lighting products, power line transmission products and multi-function controls and display systems.

Located in Wilmington, North Carolina, Sturdy Corporation has been a full-service provider of mechanical, electrical, electronic and software products for over 50 years. Operating from its “concept to completion” platform, the company has on-site capabilities to design, manufacture, validate and distribute world class products for the automotive, heavy truck, marine, industrial and electric power transmission markets.

Sturdy has an immediate opening for an experienced Purchasing Manager to support manufacturing and engineering within the organization. The duties and responsibilities of the successful candidate will include:

• Effectively lead, manage and develop purchasing team members.
• Manage ERP Material Planning with ECI ERP software.
• Develop, lead and execute purchasing strategies and procedures at the corporate level.
• Develop and keep current all departmental work instructions and procedures.
• Establish, develop and maintain excellent relationships with suppliers.
• Negotiate competitive supplier contracts and strive to make continuous improvements in lead time reduction, pricing, terms, stocking programs, delivery, etc.
• Work under direction from company President, to gather and analyze data to help make decisions that will optimize the company’s operational cost to gain market share in competitive markets.
• Effectively interact with all departments to accomplish company-wide goals, ensure quality and customer satisfaction, and to help limit non-conformance.
• Provide purchasing support for engineering, research and development activities on new and ongoing projects.
• Efficiently and accurately process reports from computer based systems and analyze necessary information for accurate purchasing.
• Analyze market conditions and component life cycles to position company and avoid stock out situations to ensure on time delivery to customers.
• Participate in cross-functional team meetings and work well with team members. Actively participate in continuous improvement activities to assist team in meeting goals related to quality, cost, delivery, safety and morale.
• Foster continuous improvement of the purchasing function utilizing latest updates in Microsoft Office based applications, ERP Systems, Silicon Expert, Crystal reports, etc.
• Provide support and documentation for procedures as required by TS 16949 & ISO 9001 Quality Standards, as well as ISO 14001 Environmental Management system requirements.
• Represent and participate in all company ISO and TS audits.
• Lead and participate in annual inventory initiative.
• Effectively lead, manage and develop ERP Department processes, System Administrator and EDI Specialist.
• Support and coordinate corporate initiatives for training and maximization of efficiencies in the use of Sturdy’s ECI/ERP software platform.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• Associates or Bachelor's degree with 5 to 10 years of related experience in a Procurement and Manufacturing environment.
• Must be computer literate and demonstrate proficiency with various software platforms such as MS Office, Excel spreadsheets, ERP applications and Crystal Reports.
• Must have experience in supervising and managing a team in a Procurement/Manufacturing environment. Proven sourcing and supply chain management experience and strong negotiation skills required.
• Electronic components experience is a plus
