Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled 911 Emergency Dispatcher to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in managing emergency calls and coordinating responses with various emergency services. This position requires exceptional communication skills, the ability to analyze situations quickly, and a strong commitment to public safety. As an Emergency Dispatcher, you will be the vital link between the public and emergency responders, ensuring that help is dispatched efficiently and effectively.
Responsibilities
Duties include but not limited to:
- Operate a communications console consisting of multiple computers, monitors, programs and other equipment to include: Multi-line telephone system that handles 9-1-1 and non-emergency calls, multi- frequency radio/paging system, computer aided dispatch (CAD) system, call recording retrieval system, telecommunications device for the deaf (TDD) system for the deaf and hearing impaired.
- Respond quickly, independently and attentively in emergency, stressful and possible life-threatening situations.
- Clearly and calmly manage over-the-phone interactions and confrontations with angry, hostile, depressed and/or otherwise emotionally distraught members of the public during emergencies, unusual events or disasters.
- Effectively prioritize situations and make rapid and accurate decisions based on information received.
- Provide pre-arrival medical instructions for callers reporting medical emergencies.
- Determine appropriate responders and provide detailed directions when needed.
- Initiate procedure to determine the location of a cell phone during an emergency.
- Perform data entry/inquiry into the state and federal computer systems which include: Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS), National Crime Information Center (NCIC), National Law Enforcement Teletype System (NLETS) and North Dakota Law Enforcement Teletype System (NDLETS).
- Utilize sensitive information in a discreet and professional manner by maintaining confidentiality.
- Monitor National Warning and Emergency Alert Systems for a six (6) county area.
- Initiate public alert systems to include: cable interrupt, outdoor warning system, Stutsman Alerts and other associated systems when required.
- Troubleshoot and resolve minor computer malfunctions and notify proper personnel of equipment malfunctions or failures.
Minimum Qualifications
Position requires employee be at least 18 years of age with a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) at time of hire.
No experience necessary, on the job training provided.
Fingerprint, background checks, hearing test, drug test and pre-employment testing are required.
This is a full time position, training hours will vary. Following training primary shift will be from 8pm to 6am or 2pm to Midnight. Occasionally required to assist covering other shifts and/or work overtime.
