We are seeking a Senior Utilities Engineer to join our team in the Boston office.

In this role, you will lead the planning, design, and coordination of utility projects integral to transportation and infrastructure developments. You will collaborate closely with key clients such as the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport/MPA), and local municipalities. Your expertise will contribute to projects that positively impact our communities, improve infrastructure resilience, and promote sustainable practices.

Key Responsibilities

Utility Design and Coordination

  • Design Leadership:
    • Lead the design of utility relocation, adjustment, and protection plans for projects involving water, sewer, gas, electric, and telecommunications.
    • Develop innovative utility solutions that integrate with complex transportation and infrastructure projects.
    • Prepare detailed engineering calculations, technical reports, drawings, and specifications.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Utilize advanced engineering software to develop conceptual and detailed utility designs.
    • Ensure utility designs comply with all relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
    • Incorporate sustainable practices and new technologies into utility designs.

Project Management

  • Planning and Execution:
    • Oversee utility engineering tasks, ensuring alignment with project objectives, timelines, and budgets.
    • Develop project plans, schedules, and budgets specifically for utility components.
    • Monitor project progress, manage changes, and ensure timely delivery of utility aspects.

Permitting and Regulatory Compliance

  • Permitting Leadership:
    • Lead the permitting process with local, state, and federal agencies.
    • Prepare and present required documentation for permits related to utility work.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    • Ensure all utility designs comply with relevant utility regulations, standards, and environmental policies.
    • Stay updated on regulatory changes affecting utility projects and advise the team accordingly.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field is required.
  • Master's degree in Engineering is preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant civil, site or utility engineering experience.
  • Extensive experience with transportation, infrastructure or development projects.
  • Proven experience working with clients like utility providers, MBTA, MassDOT, Massport, or municipal agencies.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading permitting processes and presenting to regulatory authorities.
  • Expertise in preparing and reviewing engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is required, Massachusetts is preferred or ability to obtain within 6 months.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, and GIS applications.
  • Strong knowledge of utility coordination software and tools.
  • Experience with utility conflict analysis and resolution methodologies.
  • Understanding of Building Information Modeling (BIM) practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of Massachusetts utility regulations, standards, and permitting processes.
  • Familiarity with sustainable utility design practices and emerging technologies.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects effectively.

Compensation Range:

$98,010.59 - $130,680.78

Salary : $98,011 - $130,681
