Summary
Subsea Solutions, an oil and gas service provider has an immediate opening for a technical reports writer / editor.
This position requires receiving the daily inspection reports from our field personnel, editing and assembling the material, then producing a final report for the client.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Receives and reviews the field daily reports, making corrections where necessary and files them for future integration into the final report.
- Selects pertinent data from the daily reports for use in creating a final summary of the project.
- Formats photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts.
- Checks for spelling and grammatical errors.
- Compiles data sheets, inspection sheets, checklists, and certificates for insertion into the final report.
- Confers with field personnel and subject matter experts (SME’s) to obtain clarification or additional detail for the reports.
- Assembles the final report including preparing a table of contents-index, project overview etc.
- Conducts a semi-final review of the report, identifying areas for management review that may require more information, clarification or correction.
- Makes changes to any items not previously corrected and finalize the report before submission to management for final approval.
- Coordinates the completion of the report and compiles either a printed or digital copy for submission to the client.
- Maintains records and files of work and revisions.
- Updates the data base (excel) of technical reports status and progress.
- Works in an expedited manner, setting priorities and managing job tasks.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Experience
Experience in technical writing/technical reports preparation preferably in the oil and gas industry.Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related editing and writing experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Must be fluent in English including excellent grammatical and spelling skills. Ability to read and interpret technical content. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with other employees of the organization.
Computer Skills
The individual shall be proficient in Microsoft Word and have a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook and digital photograph formatting techniques. Must have an understanding of Microsoft computer file structures, file names, extensions and be able to copy/paste/move files. Requires a basic understanding of the techniques for printing large reports to a color printer and creating digital copies of reports for filing and client submission.
Other Qualifications
General functional knowledge in the following areas is desired: oil and gas, petroleum engineering, inspection/surveyor reports. Must have good organizational skills, be self-directed and work with minimal supervision. A “self-starter” who will take the initiative to develop a working knowledge of the equipment and its related terminology. Good inter-personal skills being able to work in a small office environment.
Physical Qualifications
This position requires sitting at a desk for several hours per day working with a computer keyboard / mouse and viewing material on a computer screen.
Additional Details
Job location is in the “Energy Corridor” of Houston (near the intersection of I-10 Katy Freeway and TX Highway 6). This is an office-based, not remote position.
