In order to participate in the Classroom Monitor Program (PA Act 91), you must have completed 60 semester hours or the equivalent of courses at a regionally accredited college or university located in Pennsylvania or have at least three (3) years experience as a paraprofessional in a school entity and is currently employed as a paraprofessional in a school entity.
You must be at least 25 years of age; and have completed a training on classroom management which will be provided to you.
Position Summary
A classroom monitor may be employed to provide coverage and deliver preplanned assignments in classrooms; importantly, a classroom monitor may not plan lessons or create or grade student work.
Job Duties
Day to day job duties of a classroom monitor are determined by the classroom teacher or his / her designee, as they may vary depending upon the changing needs of the classroom(s), student(s), and / or school district. Classroom monitors of any capacity are subject to daily reassignment, depending on the needs of the day. The classroom monitor must comply with the duties outlined by the classroom teacher, principal or designee.
Qualifications and Required Documents
- Proof of completed 60 semester hours or the equivalent of courses at a regionally accredited college or university located in Pennsylvania or proof of at least three (3) years experience as a paraprofessional in a school entity and is currently employed as a paraprofessional in a school entity
- A Pennsylvania Criminal Records check (Act 34) that is clean and less than 5 years old
- A Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance History (Act 151) that is clean and less than 5 years old
- A FBI Criminal History Record that is clean and less than 5 years old

If you have taken any mandated training for Act 126 (Mandated Reporting) and / or Act 71 (Suicide Prevention), please provide proof of training-preferably a certificate of completion. Please include any additional certificates for specialized training (i.e. Crisis Prevention Intervention).
Essential Function
Substitute teaching is an essential part of the educational process. Each school year all district's will look to build a workforce of substitute teachers to help aide their teachers and allow them to be replaced in times of need for the district. Each school district will rely on a qualified and enthusiastic group of sub's that can step-up and continue the educational process in the absence of a teacher. It's essential that the substitute teacher continues the primary teacher's lesson plan so that the curriculum plan at hand continues to be carried out.
