What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building Substitute Paraprofessional position at Substitute Teacher Service?
STS is seeking a permanent Building Substitute Paraprofessionals to work at Brecknock Elementary School within the Eastern Lancaster County SD.
This position fulfills the flexible daily schedule with the understanding that they may support in a variety of classrooms throughout each day. This position will also assist, support, and work closely with teachers, administrators, and other team members in providing educational benefit for the student(s) in the classroom in a professional manner and with respect for confidentiality.
- Provide support for assigned student(s) in all educational settings to include the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, recreational areas and field trips (if requested) etc.
- Assist and support student(s) academically. Redirect and use positive reinforcement skills to elicit a positive outcome for student's learning.
- Monitor student(s) safety at all times
- Maintains high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students
Essential Functions:
Essential duties and responsibilities of this position may vary in nature due to changes in schedule; student and/or district need. This position involves a wide scope of responsibility. Essential functions include but are not limited to:
- Support on daily substitute assignments per the building administration
- Support in both Special Education and Non-Special Education capacity per building need.
- Executes instructional activities with individual students or small groups of students following teacher direction and demonstration
- Provide one-to-one support for assigned students or small groups of students in all educational settings to include the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, restrooms, recreational areas and field trips (if requested).
- Review and reinforcement in assigned academic subject area.
- Guides independent study, enrichment work, and review material set up and assigned by the teacher.
- Implements behavior management programs designed by teachers or his/her designee. Counts and records specific student behaviors; administers procedures in the Positive Behavior Support Plan (PBSP).
- Exhibits a “team” sense of operation and cooperation with co-workers and staff.
- Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected in the classroom teachers.

- Assist and support student(s) in the performance of daily living activities, including, but not limited to, dressing, toileting/diapering, hygiene, feeding, positioning, etc.
- Monitor lunch and recess as instructed by the building Principal.
- Transport students safely to and from community-based experiences while following PA Driving Laws (if applicable), in a District vehicle. (Secondary Only)
- Must practice in accordance with the Substitute Teacher Service, Inc. Para Services Handbook policies, and school district policies.
Hours: 8:30am-3:45pm - Following the student calendar
Qualifications and Required Documents:
➢ Pennsylvania Criminal Records check (Act 34)
➢ Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance History (Act 151)
➢ FBI Criminal History Record (Act 114)
➢ Proof of a TB test or chest x-ray (dated within three months)
➢ Proof of Education (copy of transcripts/diploma acceptable) for maintaining Highly Qualified Status (completed at least 2 years of postsecondary study/ possess an Associate’s Degree or higher/ completed PDE Credential of Competency).
➢ Additional documents will be provided during onboarding.
