Location: Elementary/Secondary Level
Status: Extended Day to Day Substitute Teacher. The assignment will last between 4 - 12 weeks.
Salary: Daily substitutes will receive $150.00 per day for the first 15 days worked in a school year. On the 16th day they will receive $200.00 per day. The days worked will be monitored through STS.
REPORTS TO: Principal/STS
Certification Required: K-12 Teaching Certification
Special Education Required: No
Responsibilities: Provide support/services to schools and families that will enhance the educational experience of students identified as gifted.
Essential Function and Responsibilities
- Prepare appropriate documentation – GIEPs, NORAs, etc. in compliance with Chapter 16. Maintain records on the regular update of this documentation.
- Assist in the ongoing identification of gifted students.
- Conduct GIEP and Reevaluation parent conferences as needed.
- Meet with elementary/secondary teachers to review the status of gifted students.
- As appropriate, meet with secondary gifted teachers to coordinate the move of gifted students, and the appropriate documentation, from the 6th grade to the middle school program.
- As appropriate function as an advisor to gifted students and their parents for career pursuits and affective issues.
- As appropriate, set up mentorships for gifted students.
- As appropriate conduct in-service and training opportunities for elementary/secondary teachers on issues and teaching techniques related to gifted students.
- Distribute to gifted students and their families appropriate information about opportunities outside of the regular school schedule, camps, competitions, etc.
- Coordinate with administrators and counselors to maximize the success of the program for gifted students.
- As appropriate, create virtual and project-based learning opportunities for gifted students.
- Encourage participation in essay contests, art competitions, etc.
- Advocate for the gifted program and for gifted students in the elementary/secondary schools.
- Develop and support the implementation of extensions to the regular education curriculum based on student need.
- Plan and conduct a minimum of 24 “Special Learning Opportunities” for gifted students. “Special Learning Opportunities” could have many definitions. Some possible definitions might be: - on site field trips
- field trips
- guest speakers
- guest speaker forums and debates
- simulations
- conducting research
- organizing and conducting special programs for the school
- conducting science fairs
- academic and creativity competitions
- group problem solving
- teleconference type of involvements
- Publish a quarterly communication for gifted students and their families.
- The elementary/secondary teacher of the gifted may also be required to teach regular class sessions designed specifically for students identified as gifted.
Other Duties
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or Elementary Supervisor.
- Support class list assignments and the scheduling process within the building.
- Adhere to the laws, policies, procedures and ethical standards associated with the teaching profession.
Qualifications
- The Classroom Teacher must have an active Pennsylvania certification or have an appropriate emergency certification in compliance with the regulations of the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
- Experience as a teacher is considered advantageous.
- Must be employed with The Sub Service (STS)
