Job Summary:

School nursing, a specialized practice of nursing, protects and promotes student health, facilitates optimal development, and advances academic success. School nurses, grounded in public and population health, bridge health care and education. School nurses collaborate with students, families, medical and dental homes, and the broader community to improve student health and academic outcomes. The school nurse provides direct and indirect care to multi-age students, including students with disabilities, with acute, episodic, and chronic diseases/illnesses, based on evidence-based practice. Nursing care is student-centered, based on the School Nursing Practice Framework, which includes a coordinated approach to principles of care coordination, quality improvement, leadership mindset, and community/public health.

Qualifications:

1. Graduated from an accredited ADN or BSN nursing program-BSN preferred
2. Current BLS CPR/AED certification
3. At least one year of recent nursing experience, preferably in school health, pediatrics, or community/public health
4. Strong critical thinking skills and decision-making
5. Possess knowledge in clinical applications
6. Basic computer/technology skills
7. Self-directed and has ability to work independently and as a team player

Required Documents:

1. Current SC nurse licensure- (Note licensure will be verified through Nursys/LLR BON)
2. Current AHA BLS Certification
3. Recent tuberculin test results (12 months prior to hire)- if you do not have a recent TB test, please obtain tuberculin test and provide test results on SC DHEC 1420 School Employee Certificate of Evaluation for Tuberculosis form. You may obtain a blank copy of the DHEC 1420.
4. Hepatitis B Vaccine Series if you have completed the series
5. Employee Withholding Form (W-4)
6. Employee Eligibility Form (I-9)
7. Driver’s license and Social Security Card
8. South Carolina Retirement System electronic submission (must complete the SCRS selection information form

Other Requirements:

1. Satisfactory SLED check (provided by the district)
2. Completion of SafeSchools Bloodborne Training & Review of the CCSD Exposure Control Plan (This is a component of the Nurse Orientation during the first week of employment)
3. HIPAA Policy Review & SafeSchools Training Module (This is a component of the Nurse Orientation during the first week of employment)
4. Substitute/Prn nurse salary is 25.00 per hour, the maximum number of hours that may be worked as a sub nurse is 29 hours per week.
5. You must be approved for employment by the Chief Director of Human Resource before beginning work.
