Substitute Teacher

JOB SUMMARY: Assist and supervise students due to an absence of the contracted employee. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Other duties may be assigned.

• Supervises students as directed by the plans left by the contracted employee or assigned by a building adminstrator.
• Prepares for assigned classes, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor. 
• Identifies pupil needs, and provides support according to the rules and expectations of the campus.
• Maintains vis supervision of students, a safe and orderly classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students. 
• Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to maintain a safe and orderly environment to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. 
• Communicates for support when needed with the building level administration team or a contracted employee. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Supervises students and ensures their safety in all areas of the school setting; classroom, playground, hallways, cafeteria, etc.

MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 

High School Diploma Preferred

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: 

Valid teaching license for grade level and subject area assigned. Meets requirements for Highly Qualified Teacher designation, if applicable to the teaching assignment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs. such as boxes of books and AV/VCR carts. The employee is directly responsible for safety, well-being, or work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
