West Harvey-Dixmoor School District #147 Description : The Dean of Students will be responsible for performing his / her duties, including assisting in creating a positive learning environment for all students. The Dean of Students will help students resolve problems that interfere with their gaining the benefit from the school's educational opportunities. This is a 12 month position.
Job Summary : TheDean willcreate and provide a suitable educational environment for students with challenging behavioral needs, work with classroom teachers on behavior management, and monitor and track behavior incidents throughout the school year. In addition, the Dean will be responsible for implementing the school-wide plan for creating a positive culture of student behavior and administering student discipline by the Student Discipline Handbook. This position will report to the School Principal.
Responsibilities :
- Investigate, develop, and implement Restorative Practices and procedures to promote a non-punitive approach to student discipline.
- Provide resources and consultation for teachers around Restorative Practices.
- Conduct thorough investigations of student misconduct including gathering evidence, interviewing the involved parties, reviewing school camera footage, arriving at a resolution based on findings.
- Participate in student discipline hearings.
- Work as a collaborative team member with staff, parents and community resource agencies.
- Maintain student discipline in the building, on the school grounds, at school events, and on buses to ensure a safe educational environment.
- Ensure compliance with the mandatory attendance law and develop positive student attendance patterns by supervising daily attendance, contacting parents, and by monitoring the procedures of the attendance office.
- Communicate regularly with parents and others in the community to develop and maintain a positive school-community relationship.
- Maintain behavioral logs for each student on caseload.
- Participate in supervision of co-curricular activities and Safety and Support Staff.
- Review and establish school policy and objectives with the administrative team to facilitate effective school management.
- Perform other duties as assigned
