Elementary School Science Teacher at Success Academy
An Elementary School Science Teacher at Success Academy is responsible for inspiring students from low-income neighborhoods to engage with scientific concepts in a creative and critical manner. This role emphasizes developing scientific literacy and fostering a passion for learning, while providing extensive support and training to educators.
About Us
We are the largest, fastest-growing, and highest-performing network of public charter schools in New York City. We work tirelessly every day to ensure each child in NYC has access to a fun, rigorous, whole-child education regardless of zip code or economic status.
Our Mission
When you join our community, you play a part in giving every student who walks through the doors of one of our 57 schools in NYC a fair shot at reaching his or her potential.
Job Description
As a science teacher in New York City's top-performing network of K-12 charter schools, you will join a team of professionals committed to teaching and preparing children from low-income neighborhoods to be self-assured thinkers and leaders, capable of exploring and debating sophisticated ideas, and ready for college and whatever they set their sights on.
Our Science Program
We develop our scholars as citizens of science, empowering them to engage creatively, critically, and meaningfully with the world around them in ways that are endlessly fascinating, complex, and philosophical.
Scholars engage flexibly with different scientific disciplines, compelling them to see engineering, physics, mathematics, chemistry, and biology as all interdependent. We also place a strong emphasis on scientific literacy, with special attention to reading, writing, and data literacy.
About You
A background in education is not required. At Success Academy, we provide you with extensive training and a proven curriculum so you can focus on working with your students instead of building lesson plans.
What We Offer
We give you unparalleled opportunities to gain valuable professional skills and advance rapidly with leadership opportunities available both in the classroom and outside. This includes writing letters of recommendation at the middle school and high school level.
You will learn to assess and analyze data to chart your students' growth and achievement, and tailor your own teaching methods accordingly. Engage in professional development opportunities with school leaders to benefit from targeted, in-the-moment feedback and coaching to improve your performance.
Requirements
We are looking for candidates with:
- A bachelor's degree before your first day of work with Success Academy
- A rigorous and relevant academic major (i.e., biology, chemistry, physics, engineering)
- Ability to work in person in New York City ($2500 stipend for qualified relocations)
What We Value
We value passion for content, planning and organizational skills, and emotional intelligence. You should have strong instincts for building trusting relationships with people from a wide range of backgrounds, and welcome feedback and coaching that will help you achieve your goals.
