Job Title: Campus Monitor-Security
Classification: Exempt
Reports to: Program Manager, Director of Programs
The Campus Monitor for the After-School Program is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the school, its staff, students, and parents during after-school hours. This position requires vigilance, professionalism, and a commitment to maintaining a secure environment conducive to learning and community engagement. The Campus Monitor will patrol building parameters, enforce security protocols, and respond to any incidents promptly and effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Building Security:
- Patrol the exterior and interior of the school buildings to prevent unauthorized access and ensure that all entry points are secure.
- Monitor surveillance cameras and alarm systems to detect any suspicious activity or breaches in security.
- Lock and unlock doors at designated times, ensuring that only authorized personnel have access to the premises.
- Conduct routine checks of all classrooms, offices, and common areas to ensure they are properly secured.
- Visitor Management:
- Greet visitors and verify their identities and purpose for entering the school premises.
- Issue visitor badges and ensure that all guests sign in and out of the building according to school procedures.
- Escort visitors to their destinations within the school and provide assistance as needed.
- Address any individuals who are loitering or behaving in a manner that raises security concerns.
- Emergency Response:
- Respond promptly to any security incidents, emergencies, or alarms, and take appropriate action to resolve the situation.
- Coordinate with law enforcement, emergency services, and school administration as necessary.
- Conduct regular drills and training sessions to prepare staff and students for emergency situations, including lockdowns and evacuations.
- Communication and Reporting:
- Maintain clear and accurate records of all security-related incidents, including detailed reports of any breaches, disturbances, or suspicious activity.
- Communicate effectively with school administrators, teachers, and other staff members to relay important security information and updates.
- Collaborate with local law enforcement agencies and security personnel to share information and coordinate efforts to enhance campus safety.
- Community Engagement:
- Build positive relationships with students, parents, and community members to foster a sense of trust and cooperation in maintaining a safe and secure school environment.
- Serve as a visible and approachable presence on campus, interacting with students and addressing any concerns or issues they may have.
- Participate in school events, meetings, and committees focused on safety and security to contribute insights and support initiatives aimed at improving campus security measures.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or training in security or law enforcement preferred.
- Proven experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field, with a strong understanding of security principles and procedures.
- Excellent observational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to quickly identify potential security threats and take appropriate action.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders in a courteous and professional manner.
- Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure, with the capacity to make quick, sound decisions in emergency situations.
- Physical fitness and stamina to perform regular patrols and respond to security incidents as needed.
- Flexibility to work evening hours and weekends as required by the after-school program schedule.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record, with the ability to operate a vehicle for patrol purposes if necessary.
Schedule and Compensation
· School Year Schedule: Monday – Friday, 1:30pm – 6:00pm
Spring Break: Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm
Summer Schedule: Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm
· $15.00 an hour
