What you will do in this role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director, Government Affairs & Industry Relations to join our organization. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to effectively engage with government entities, monitor legislative and regulatory developments, and advocate for our organization's interests. This role requires a deep understanding of government processes, strong communication and negotiation skills, and the ability to build relationships with key stakeholders.  This role will report to the VP, Portfolio Optimization.

 

Responsibilities  

  • Develop and execute government affairs strategies to promote our organization's goals and objectives; specifically, around EPA, FTC, CFIUS, CBP.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory activities at the local, state, and federal levels, and provide timely updates to internal / recommendations stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain relationships with government officials, policymakers, grower associations and other key influencers to advocate for our organization's interests.
  • Represent our organization at meetings, hearings, and other relevant events to ensure our agenda / priorities are heard and our concerns are addressed.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to analyze the impact of proposed regulations and legislation on our organization and develop appropriate responses and action plans.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations, reports, and other materials to effectively communicate our organization's positions and priorities to government officials and other stakeholders.
  • Engage in coalition building and partnership development with other organizations and industry groups to amplify our advocacy efforts.
  • Stay informed about industry best practices and trends in government affairs to continuously improve our strategies and approaches.
  • Manage budgets, resources, and timelines related to government affairs initiatives.

 

 

 

Required Skills/Qualifications 

  • 10 years in government affairs; including time spent on the Hill and work with Grower Associations.
  • Strong knowledge of government processes, legislative and regulatory frameworks, and public policy issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to effectively articulate complex ideas and influence decision-makers.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing successful government affairs strategies and establishing and growing a government affairs department.
  • Strong analytical and research skills to assess the impact of proposed regulations and legislation on our organization.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with government officials, policymakers, and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent negotiation and persuasion skills to advocate for our organization's interests.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities to navigate complex government processes and issues.
  • Proficient in using relevant software and tools for research, analysis, and communication.
  • Must live in the DC Metro area.
